I have a CV stroker 12D in a 3.2 cu ft ported box with 2 4" ports tuned to 35hz which is what cerwin vega has on their spec sheet if you wanted deep bass. I am running it to a JBL 1200.1 at 2ohms. The sub sounds like its making a flapping kind of noise when i turn the volume up about 1/2 way.
I want to know what i can change so that it doens't make the noise any more. I have also heard its called bottoming out.. but i'm not sure.

Try turning the gain down on the amp to a lower level/position. See if the problem continues then..

The JBL1200.1 doesn't have a subsonic filter. If you're playing music that gets down close to your tuning frequency you may want to invest in one.

by subsonic filter, you mean like a PG bass cube?
Would it help if i tuned it higher?

I'm just playing normal music and i get that noise, Its not like i'm playing 25hz test tones or something.. I checked my gains.. The bass boost was at less than a quarter, and the gain was about 1/3... What processors and EQs have a subsonic filter, or can you just buy them seperately? I need to get this worked out soon. SPL comps are coming to Edmonton pretty soon.

i cant tell you right now, that noise is from the stroker trying to play lower than the tuning of your box and if you keep playing it youll tear that stroker apart, tune the box lower

Turn the bass boost off for starters and see if that helps.
You can get an in-line subsonic filter that goes inbetween the RCA and the amp at connection.

Try partsexpress.com or thezeb.com and see if they have some.
I'll try to dig one up for yuo later if you haven't found one.

i had the same thing happen with a subsonic filter turned on (Usamps 2000x, subsonic @36hz) and i ended up changing the ports to tune it a little lower and the problem went away, but i also lost a fair bit of output(spl) i think it was about 2db, theres just something wierd about the cerwin vega specs for the stroker

OK, so I've decided i'll build a square port...
I don't wanna go with what cerwin vega has for specs because what i have right now sounds awful.
What do you guys figure its ported at? I have 2 4" ports at 16 inches long..Like i said before, the box it approx. 3.2 cu ft......
So for SPL comps I'll need to get a subsonic filter I take it, because I'd love to hit 150 with 2 of them with 2 1200.1.... but i will need to tune it higher
