Speaker Problem

Hey everyone,

So heres the skinny: A few weeks back I posted that I need some tips to remove a door panel from a Malibu to change a speaker. Well last night I met with my friend because his ground melted on the amp (pretty cool to see the jacket all bubbled up). Anyways, we decided to do the speaker swap one time, and we did. Everything went smoothly except that he is now 1 clip short on each door. This is where the problem comes in.

Both speakers play music just fine when the engine is on or when you turn the key to accessory. But, when you turn off the car, the setting between acc and off (I would guess just battery?), one of the speakers makes a static noise like a radio that isn't on a station. Even if the deck is off before you turn the key, the speaker makes the noise, and until you open the door it keeps making the noise.

It is the driver side door, and that door was replaced after he was t-boned. I thought that it might be something with the door itself because none of the other four speakers make the noise.

Any ideas what it might be?

the speaker is partially shorted to ground..pole piece might be rubbing just enough to be parastic. Happens alot when the screws are over tightened to the point the speakers frame bends. Also happens when there is heave corrosion in the door boot. but if I remember correctly Malibu's don't have a cionnecter right in the boot.

but it happens even when the speaker is out of the door. could it be that the wiring in the door may be damaged and grounding out like you said? there was an issue with this door where there is no protective barriers to stop water and such from getting in the door, and when i removed the old one there was rust build up on the basket. i tried to tell him to hold off on the speaker but he wasn't having that

the speaker is shorting from rust. the pole piece is probably rusted then and causing a partial short. if the spesker is rusty..time to replace.
