Speaker Location
#1
I have a set of Pioneer 2way 5 1/4" speakers mounted it the stock location in the doors running off my clarion deck. I find that the sound is being blocked by my legs and was wondering if mounting them up beside my head on the B pillar would improve my problem. I'm not worried about having a perfect sound stage and I realize that a good set of components would fix my problem but I don't want to spend anymore money. Do I have any other options.

Its in my regular cab Jeep Comanche truck. The p lace where I would mount the speakers would be at ear level and a little behind my head. The tweeters can't be tilted but I have another set of tweeters that I could mount up front on the A-piller. I guess what I should have asked in the first post is will the speakers sound good only a few inches away from my ears?

If it were me I wouldn't be mounting the speakers so close to my head & also not behind my head.
If you have a second set of tweeters, that might be the answer. Most of the vocal range (where our ears are most sensitive) is reproduced through the tweeters. Becuase these high frequency waves are very short, they are easily blocked by legs, etc. in the vehicle. That's why it's best to have tweeters in line of sight while subwoofers (which have a longer wave) can pass through things likes seats & deck lids.
I would suggest you leave the speakers where they are & add the tweeters above them as high up as you can feasibly go. This will keep the tweeters aligned with the speakers as they are on the same plane & should raise your sound stage considerably. You will more than likely also get better midbass response from the doors rather than the B pillars as well.
Good luck!

^ Ditto what Pioneer Guy said... though raising the tweets much higher than your head could sound funny (I dont like to look up at the music). Dash height or higher... put duct tape on the back of the tweets and stick them around and find where it sounds best
