Very good pictures!!! And very inspirational work. Did you have to cut away any of the foam underneath the carpet to fit it back properly along the center where the speaker wires are run?

hummm, does the carpet look 'short'?
or is it the kick pannel not mounting properly?
maybe even an unsightly bulge on the carpet??

what could it be??

I'll cut right to the chase:

The factory carpet doesn't fit back in!!!!!!!

The most significant conflict is along the transmission tunnel. Not from the speaker wire, but from the VB4. (The speaker wire didn't help much either.) The factory carpet is a press-formed structure (it's that stiff) with about 1" of closed cell foam moulded to the back of it. After kicking and stomping the carpet for about 1/2 an hour, I finally got it to squeeze in enough to line up the seat bolt holes with the frame mounts. I then focused my new found ramming skills towards mounting the throttle pedal. After much swearing and some bloody knuckles, I got the pedal in. In my truimph, I rushed along the next steps of re-assembling the dash, putting the rear carpet piece in (not a problem), a re-installing the seats. Once the seats were in, I fired up the engine and......

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My foot couldn't reach the throttle pedal!

My foot literally jammed between the bulging carpet, (from the VB4 and extra wiring) and the brake pedal. I had brakes....but no gas.

Out came the seats, out came the throttle pedal module, off came all the dash trim, the steering wheel, the dash, and out came the both carpet modules. I stared down at the evil VB4 and got a knife. I cut out the VB4 running from the firewall back to just beyond where the RCA wire is routed. Once this was done, the carpet fit back in much better, but I still got bloody knuckles re-mounting the throttle pedal module.

The carpet still was a tough fit, and if you look to the door sill area, it rises up about 3" above where it is supposed to sit. I ended up cutting 3" of carpet and foam from this area to make the door sills fit back on properly.

With my new found wisedom, (and bloody knuckles)I approached sound deadning in the rest of the car with a bit of restraint. I still ran into some fitment problems, but it was on a trial and error basis without too much grief.

Maaaan!! You guys are scaring me!!! I just bought 100 FT of that Brown bread to put in my Hummer! I don't want to pay $400 to install it all at an Audio shop so I was going to do it myself! DAMN!! I'm not looking forward to these headaches of nothing fitting back in place! Question! Why did you have to take off the steering wheel and dash? Is it just for manovering reasons?

^^^^I think the best way of explaining this one is with some pictures.

This is the dash:

This is the dash in the car:

The dash sits on TOP of the front carpet module, and it is imposible to remove the dash module without taking the steering wheel off. (or you could remove the windshield....)

Don't feel threatened by my story. This is my first serious install, and I have had NO help from anyone in figuring all this sound deadening stuff out. All of what you see posted was completed last September...well before I joined the CCA community. Take your time, and leave yourself some room for errors. Pick small areas to start with, do it area at a time. Take 1 day for example to do a door....or a day to do the trunk. Once you get the hang of it, the rest comes easy.

Do the work yourself...and you will enjoy the results much more.

I beleive Car Audio to be somethat you do, not own.

Have fun,

Adam

Sounds good! I might add to your pics! Are you doing everything yourself? Building the custom box etc. I would like to get help designing the box I'm going to use for the best sound. It's going to need 10.1 Cubic feet of airspace. When done I want people 2 blocks away to be like , or !!

I think I f'ed up!! I put Brown Bread on the inside of the back doors! After I finished the application it struck me how messy it will get in the summer when it's 40 degrees and the windows are all the way up! I'm not going to waste 2'/3' of the stuff, so It'll stay where it is, but I'm dreading the after effects of this error! I uploadded pics to my Sympatico account! I just gotta find the link address.
