Single run of 1/0
#1
I'm going to have to do a run of 1/0 in the next couple weeks and I'm just wondering if it will work to run it under the car, away from the exhaust and into the trunk? I will be putting split loom all way underneath. I just think that this way will be a lot easier than trying to hide it inside the car and having to go through the firewall. Any comments or suggestions?

i did that in my 84 firebird and i just did it again in my 94 suburban. i think its to hard to hide, and i couldnt be bothered hiding it, i ran it away from everything that can possibly peirce the casing, also on the suburban i ran it inside the frame rail so it cant get hit by anything. just make sure u have a fuse, just incase.

Mine went under the carpet relatively easily, but yes many people run wire along the chassis as long as it is protected by something like splitloom and is away from heat and sharp edges. You could probably ziptie it along the chassis and run it into the trunk. Good luck man.

I just finished doing that two or three weeks ago with my Ridgeline. I ran the 1/0 in a proper solid conduit I bought from Home Depot. It was 79 cents a foot. I also bought a bottle of slide 'n glide. I first slid fish tape through the conduit and pulled the 1/0 cable through. Home Depot also sells the connectors that match the conduit. I used an elbow that also acts like a watertight grommet. I used metal clamps that are meant for the conduit as well - also sold at Home Depot. The conduit that works with the 1/0 is 3/4 inch size.
Home depot also had conduit that is reinforced with a layer of thin metal. It costs more but was a lot more flexible than the straight plastic one. I only found it at one branch, so it might not be a regularly stocked item.
IMO, split wire loom won't be enough to protect the cable. As mentioned by others, make sure to fuse at both ends.
Tim Baillie put me onto this stuff and it is solid. I have lots of pics of the install if you want to see them. Just PM me

Yes, ideally conduit should be used, however, I believe that unless the wire is going to be dragged on the ground behind you or going through some jagged metal, then split loom CAN be used. It may not be the best solution, but it is plausible.
If youc an afford it, conduit would be the better choice.
If it was my car, It would depend on how much money I had. I still think there is nothing wrong with split loom. After all, they are pretty much the same thing. Like I stated before, if you use zip ties with split loom, it will keep it pretty much closed.

Maybe it's not as hard to hide as you think, but still you have to deal with the firewall, which given a bit of ingenuity might not be all that hard either. Would probably be a lot safer to run it inside the car.
BTW, I never noticed an update to your "looking for a car" thread, what did you end up with?
