Question sheet metal and fuses

All system power wires connected to any positive battery post must be fused within 18 inches of wire length from the
battery post and prior to the power cable's first pass through any sheet metal or other conductive material. If there is
no fuse present or the fusing is located beyond 18 inches or 46 centimeters of wire length or after the power wire passes
through sheet metal, the score is 0.

this is what iasca has on what side do i need to fuse on

i need to add fuses
i'm over the 18" so i need to add and i'm looking at what side would get more points
i would think befor the hole but that would be on the wet side of the hole and not in the car/truck/suv
if the wire hits the car because of where, the fuse pops but if it is after the hole the fuse at the battery would go and not the one at the hole

Fuse must be before the firewall.

What I'm wondering is, does that mean that you have to fuse upgraded alternator lines? Also, I use the factory power point in my car, not the positive terminal... I think I should be able to fuse within 18" of the terminal, not the actual battery... but not sure.

you do not need a fuse on the alternator lines and you do not need one going to the 2nd battery
but i have not seen where it said the it needs to be on what side of the tin/sheet metal i'm under the suv with the wire and i came up under the back end of the suv
your power wire needs to go to the battery and with in 18" of the battery you need a fuse then if you go a hole in your sheet metal you need a fuse if the hole is more then 18" form the the fuse you will need two fuses

so what you are saying is i need to fuse under the suv not inside of it

maybe im not understanding this right. but the way im reading this, it looks like one of the stupidest questions ever.

put the fuse on what ever side of the steel the batt is. if the batt is on one side, and you fuse on the other. what happens when the steel cuts threw the wire? the fuse obviosly isnt going to blow. the fuse at the batt is to protect the CAR. NOT your amp/stereo.

Ok...

If the fuse is WITHIN 18" of the battery and BEFORE the wire passes thru metal (firewall) you get full points.

If the fuse is WITHIN 18" of the battery but AFTER the wire passes thru metal you get zero.

If the fuse is BEYOND 18" of the battery you get zero.

i know what you are saying
i would fuse how you are saying (but if you have a fuse at the battery {with in 18"}and one at the sheet metal hole with in 18" there needs to be a fuse )

the Q is does the fuse Need to be on the power side of the hole

that is the Q

i would like to have it under the suv (power side)but i need to fuse in the suv

There only needs to be one fuse in total, located within 18" of wire length away from the the battery, and said fuse must be located before any pass through any sheet metal.

It is exactly as simple as that.
