Im a total newb to this. I have a sony xplode 12" sub (1300w), im planning to get the rest soon to do a complete system. its for a 98 nissan sentra. what i need to know is, whats better, ported or sealed sub box? how do you wire your deck to your amp, and what amp would work best with this sub, and with 4 sony xplode speakers? would i need another battery for this? how hard is it to do? would i be aable to do it myself?

What size and type of box will work best with this sub?? and would a 300w 2 channel amp be good for 4 6.5 sony xplod speakers? and what about a 950w 4 ohm mono amp for the 12" sub? i need to know how this setup will perform....

genrally a ported box is louder. Are you buying a prefab box, or building your own? I'f it were me I would go ported, with that sub I would build the box to be 2 cub feet, tuned at about 34 hertz, sealed I would go with about 1.5 cubic feet. Someone on the forum could probably give you better box sizes with the sub stats. Also, if it were me, I would buy a 4 channel amp for your speakers.

i have a 300 watt 2 channel amp for the speakers now. its an aftermarket sony deck. if i could get a good design for a ported box, like blueprints, i could make one. i am looking for the most bass possible from this setup. i was looking at a sony amp online, the 950watt one, with 600rms. would that be good?

kk, ill build this box. ill look for an amp that will do 300rms. one question, when wiring the amp, would i just ground it to my seat mounts or something, since im mounting it under my seat? and can i run a 2 channel amp with 4 speakers and just double up the wires?

1st - You will get the most out of your sub with that box. Jalat knows how to design boxes. He designed my current box, as well as another I built for a board member. Both have been awesome sounding.

2nd - I have heard seat bolts are not the best grounding points. Find a good solid metal surface close to your amps. Sand down to bare metal, all paint gone. If you have access behind it use a bolt, nut and washers. Otherwise just get a self tapping screw and be sure it is solid too. Make sure both amps have the same length ground wires or you will get unwanted noise.

3rd - Also not recommended. If you already have the 2 ch amp use it on the fronts and run the rears off the deck power for now. That way you still have fader control.

where is a good spot to ground? i have 4 6.5's going in, why shouldnt i run the amp on the rear?

also, i heard if you run your spreakers with just the deck power, you can damage them from not having enough power... is this true?
