RCA's. Does Quality/price make a differance?
I have always wondered about this. Is there a significant differance between RCA cables?
Lets take it to the extreme. What is the differance between a dollar store or walmart set of RCA's vs an expensive set from the local Audio shop?
I know that the the plastic/rubber casing may be differant, but as far as sound quality goes, on a scale of 1 to 10, is the walmart brand a 1, and the audio shop one a 10?
I have always run a nice set on my components and a crap walmart set on my sub. i have never taken the time to switch them out to see if i could tell the differance.
I know that higher voltage pre outs make longs runs better, but beyond that i have no clue.
I have to buy a set for my new setup, and i was just wondering if its worth spending the money? Wheres the best place vs price?
Thanks

I've never really disected cables much to see what the composition difference is, as I'm sure that could take in effect along with the shielding/protection.
I bought my 16' Monster Cables at $15 a set :P To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between those cables and the old set I bought as part of a $15 10awg wiring kit years ago at Princess Auto.

Scrap yard is a good place to get cables, power wire. usually get for next to nothing and in some cases free.
I recently got a nice set of stinger rca's, 8 awg power wire(like 16 feet) fuse and holder and a bunch of quality speaker wire for 5 dollars!

People argue back and forth about this all the time. Those that believe say those that don't can't hear or their gear isn't good enuf to make the difference. Those that don't believe call the believers delusional and save money on their system.
I like to use a moderately priced cable, ie $40-60 for 17feet, mostly for the quality and durability a cable like this has but also so I don't look like a cheap ***
Actually, in my current install, I made all my rca cables. The only real expense was the ends.
