Any commercial capacitor sold for the purpose of bolstering the electrical system of a car has a vent plug so that #4 is unlikely
Not arguing for or against caps - that's a personal choice.

^^^Just a question Dukk, why do caps have resistance if you hold a DMM to their + and - terminals?
And no, I've never had a cap explode on me... although popping the blow off vent can be pretty toxic if you inhale the gases.
Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to install caps in a system after all that this board has taught me. I wish I'd found this place before I spent the $$$$$.

^ And it should be a large resistance... if it isn’t large it wouldn’t be a cap. And for you kids at home-do not take a DMM in resistance mode to a charged 1F capacitor the cap will win, you will lose.
I have destroyed screwdrivers forcibly discharging caps (arc cut).
A cap ought not to draw from the battery (leakage shouldn’t happen), the battery will self discharge over time (nature of the lead acid battery)

...yeah the cap always wins
My experience:
I have 2 (two) optima yellow top batteries in my car.
I parked my car for period of storage, and disconnected the power leads to all my audio electronics, and the caps. I had no problem starting the vehicle later on.
Next time I parked my car, I disconnected the power leads to all of my audio equipment, but NOT my caps. My battery was dead later on.
Period of storage both times = 2 weeks.
My caps don't have any lights, meters, or relays attached to them.
I'm not willing to repeat this test for anyones benifit.

^ shouldnt have happened....hmmmmm
I got one for you, last weekend I did 2 things to my stereo 1) I removed the capacitor and 2) I removed the EQ (it was not hooked into the signal path it just powered up with the stereo). Why did the sound change? I am bamboozled.

^^The Voodoo appears to have jumped from my car into yours.
Here's an idea. Charge that cap up to 13volts and let it sit a day or 2, then measure the voltage. I'd do the test myself, but I'm back in Oman.
