putting 6.5 in 5.25 holes... components

k i got a question just been wondering... my car's stock door speakers are 5.25, would it make everthing sound like crap if i put 6.5's in with some sort of cone adaptor like 1-2 inch in length that goes from big to small at the back ...so you can bolt it to the exesting hole and then on the other end of this sort of cone deal thing you can screw in the 6.5's... u know what i mean?

just something ive wondered about for some time .....

gotta go cant re read my post thanks!

I believe I understand what you are saying. It should work just fine.

many cars that come with 5 1/4" speakers are able to get 6 1/2" speakers without much, or in some cases any, modifications. i know my Grand Prix had 5 1/4" and i could slide in 6 1/2s easy.

Lightbulb

Depends on the 6.5, how easily it may fit the factory hole. Pioneer, JVC, etc coaxial 6.5s will fit many factory 5.25" holes from Ford, Honda, etc.

If you have a larger frame 6.5" like Infinity and many US brands then you will likely have to cut metal or add an adaptor.

i did something similar, using a pvc pipe flare from home depot, to fit 4" speakers into 3" mounts, it worked fine, although most car audio buffs thought it was pretty damned ghetto.
