Problem I can't figure out...

I've got a JL W0 10 running off a MTX TN 250/1, a Sony CDX-GT270 source unit, and an Alpine MRP-F240 4 channel running the mids/highs.

There was an older MTX running the mids/highs but it kept overheating, I switched out the amp to the Alpine and now when I give it any volume the doors will sound clear until about half way up then just go to a bit of static and sound terrible, and since I hooked up the alpine the sub amp will not even come out of protection.

The power cable was a little corroded at the terminal so I took it off and cleaned it, ran through all the wiring that I could and found no imperfections, not sure if it may be the RCAs? I have no problem hooking everything up and doing basic troubleshooting but I think this may be beyond me. Any suggestions other than buying better equipment? (not my vehicle)

Thanks,

The gains are down, going to try new rca's today, still not sure why the sub amp wont come out of protection now though bc that was never the problem before.
