A Possible Answer To, "What Amp For My Sub(s)?"

Ok guys i am kind of confused about something and after a numerous amount of searches i am beginning to understand but still need some of clarification. I have searched and searched but cannot find a concrete answer to this question (probably has been asnwered indirectly but here it goes);

If you have two SVC subs rated at 350rms each both with a 4 ohm impendance, will they be wired at a 2 ohm load?

If that is the case, when purcashing an amplifier, is it best to match your subs output (350x2 subs=700rms) with its 2ohm capability. For example, an amp that has an output of 700rms x 1 @ 2ohms is an ideal match for two (2) svc subs w/350rms and a 4 ohm impedance?

Man, i hope i'm in the right direction b/c this stuff is confusing for newbs trying to put together a descent system.

Thanks in advance!!
-Dave

Yeah, right more or less. Two 4 ohm subs in parallel are 2 ohm. And yes, you want an amp that does it's power into 2 ohm. Matching power ratings doesn't always work that well tho because manufacturers aren't always honest. Personally I'd rather have a bit more power than I"m going to use for headroom.

you can always tone down an amp's output using the gain, but its harder to tune up and not sound distorted. :P

Agree look for something that is 10% more power then your subs are rated for headroom. So around an 800Wrms x 1 @ 2 ohm would do the trick.

I'm gathering you're a little new so I thought I'd throw a cautionary note in there for ya...

800x1 @ 2 ohms puts you in the range of running (for example only) an old school Orion 2100 hcca...

I'm not a TOTAL expert but before running that type of equipment, you should make sure you've looked after the rest of your car before you slam a 120 amp draw on it just for the sub amp.

Have a good one...

As much as I do agree with tonez. The 120Amp draw on an 800wrms amp is a little high. Rule of thumb is 1A for every 10Wrms so around 80amps or so give or take. This is a rough estimate.

Power is just one thing to look at in a amp, what about the rest of what makes an amp an amp?

i think what toney was trying to say is if you dont have the right electrical setup dont put somthing thats gonna draw enough to turn your car off after a few minutes lol.
