Pioneer unit install help.
#12
Hi again, so I ended up getting the JVC KD-X50BT. Now as I am hooking up the wires from the units harness to the cars wiring harness, according to the units installation instructions it says to hook up the black(ground) to the black on the wiring harness. Also there's a yellow warning tag that was attached to the units harness black wire stating to attach the black wire to a metal part of the car. What do I do?
With that being said my Pioneer unit was hooked up black to black, I had no black wire hooked up to any metal part in the car. Was this the reason why it wasn't working or display lighting up?

Some cars don't have a ground lead in the harness so black needs to be connected to a metal surface. 99% of cars with a black lead, it is fine to use it. Occasionally the black lead from the car is crap so grounding to metal is better.
Grounding to metal is never bad but usually the dash lead is fine.

Hi Dukk, thanks for the reply. I am a little confused at what you said, sorry I'm a newbie at this. Here is what I understand, you mean to connect the black(ground) from the units harness to metal? Whereas the black lead from the cars harness is probably useless therefore leaving it unconnected?
Could this be why I was thinking my Pioneer unit wasn't working before? Because I had the two black leads connected together and the unit wasn't getting any display at all.

Let me rephrase.
Some cars do not have a ground lead in the harness at all. For those cars the only option is to ground the deck to metal.
Most cars have a ground lead in the harness and it is perfectly fine to use it.
Some people feel that you should ALWAYS ground the deck to metal regardless of whether the car has a ground lead in the harness or not. This is never a bad idea but usually not necessary.
A bad ground may have prevented your Pioneer from working at all but not just the display.
