Noise From Amp Remote ON/OFF?
#1
I installed a new Eclipse head unit and with or without out any RCAs connected was getting a zipper-like sound from the speakers upon powering down. Then I disconnected the remote line and ran an independent 12 volt line to the remote on the amps which resulted in no power-down noises when disconnecting it from the remote.
When I checked the head unit remote line it was putting out 12.1 volts in the on position but upon power-down dropped to 3 volts for a second and then 1 volt, .5, .1 and then nothing. I'm presuming this is what was causing the zipper sound - but was wondering if this is just typically of some maufacturer's head units?
And what should I do now?

That is peculiar.
Buy a relay.
Most relays cannot function on less than 11v, so as your remote line gradually powers down, as soon as it drops below 11v the relay will shut down and shut down the amp.
I have assumed you know what a relay is. If you don't and want more information, just ask and many people can help.

That's a good idea. As long as the slight gradiation to 11 volts doesn't create a sound anyway - but well worth a try! Thanks!
ps. Vibe Car Audio in Red Deer simply ordered me a brand new head unit anyway - good guys there.

The gradation to 11volts won't cause noise. The relay will get the 11 volts. If the relay stays closed through the 11 volts it will still allow 12v straight from the battery to go to the amp so the amp relay will never see anything other than 12v. Either 12v on or off.
The new HU could solve the problem too, because the HU shouldn't do that to begin with.
