Hi all , quick question I got a set of new dash speakers a couple weeks ago and due to the current weather and lack of a heated shop I was unable to install them . today I was bored enough and the weather was ok I deside to take the task and install the new speakers .
the speakers in question are Infinity 4002.i
these a 4" speakers . and were to be installed in my 84 toyta 4x4 .
after mounting them in the dash and wiring them to the amp (alpine F340 4 ch ) the left speaker I couldn't tell if it was the tweaker or the woofer started to rattle.
this started right away and low volume the amp wasn't turned upi very load and I think I had had it in either off or HP mode. I think the settings were/are normal/100Hz
could it be just a bad speaker or could there be something else messing with my speaker.

my deck is alpine 7995 so since there is no internal amp I have to run it off another amp.

on the deck I had the treable set to 0 as well as the bass.
the decks HP filter set to 15.5 I think .

just wondering if it's a faulter speaker or something else.

Switch your rca's to see if the trouble is before the amp(source or rca's)

Switch your speaker leads to see if it the speaker/speaker wires, or the amp itself

Or try your speaker to another source altogether

You should try running the speakers with the deck's HP set to either 120 or 160hz. I have a 7894 Alpine, and had 3.5's, I ran them from 120hz and up off the deck crossover, and they sounded fine. Better double check your setup maybe.

I'm going to go and try to switch my RCA cables with better QT ones .
as for the crossover on the desk , I just checked the manaul
the treble control has frequency control
and they are as follows
10.0 , 12.5 , 15.0,17.5hz

the bass also has this and are *** follows
60,70 80 90 100 130 150 180

I'm not sure what my X-over is set at and I'm going to go out side and check this now
and I will then post my results

Those numbers you listed are just the frequency that the bass or treble will boost. To change the crossover you hold the T.Corr button underneath the volume ****, and select HPF and then LPF. If you already knew this, sorry, but it will help you get it set up right.

ok I went just got back in checking everything , I replaced the rca cable with a brand new one , and replaced the speaker wire from the 4" to the amp .
while the left 4" still sounds ok ...not the best.
the right still rattles and I belive the speaker came faulty .
while messing with the x-over I noticed that the left speaker can indeed handle 120Hz and up on the HPF . and if I mess around with the LPF it messes up my subs.
but I did try all settings with the LPF and it did not help with the 4" speakers
and reading the manual it seems that the LPF is only active if you have sub out put turned on (which I do ) but leads me to belive that it only effects the sub output ch , while the HPF is always active and effects all output ch's .
not sure if this is right or not but I could not tell the diff on the front ch while messing with the LPF .

thx for all the help . I'm waiting to hear back from the guy I bought the speakers from too see if he will cover them .

The LPF is only for the sub out, you want to try either 120 or 160hz on the HPF for those fronts. The LPF will not affect the 4"'s in any way at all. Good luck!

thx I have it set to 160 at the moment and sounds best there , aside from the right speaker rattle.
I balanced it off most of the way , I'm hoping to hear back from s2strading some time tomorrow .
I don't know if they will make me mail the back then refund my money or just replace the one speaker.
makes be upset to find out one speaker is shot.
I ordered some others from some where else and I hope to have them next week.

Let us know how it turns out. Couldn't be the speaker vibrating something in the dash could it? They are in the dash behind the factory grill right?

yes they are mounted in the factory holes but nothing is vibrating .
the company contacted me and notifed me that the DOA warranty as expired .this might be due to the fact I took a week to try and install them in my truck.

so now I'm out of a set of speakers and going to have to find some other type of speaker to fit in the factory holes. while 4" fit I would like something a bit better.

for the mean time I guess I will just have run with unbalanced sound . which make the whole system sound nasty.
