New install on 2010 camaro??

Hey guys, i have a question for you!

i just picked up my new car 2010 camaro 2SS. So i ripped out my stereo from my S10

the gear is.

2 12" kicker L7's
1 1500.1 d mono kicker amp
1 kinetic battery.

now im trying to figure out really what is the best way to install this, i actually already ordered a pre build box from a company online. so im running 2 sealed areas with 1.1cub feet. If im correct this is still in the required min max range of my subs.

Oh and i am using this t harness i bought from subthump. so i dont have to splice into the factory wires. Do you think this will work well? http://"http://subthump.com/Car-Audi...Channels.html"

My big question is how would you guys suggest wiring in my second battery? or can i just get away with using the one battery, i know my old stereo was running a second 1000watt amp "which im not moving over at this point"

Also how do you guys think grounding the system would be best, i would prefer not to drill new holes into the car.

Any opinions and suggestions would be great!! thanks guys

Firstly, welcome to the CCA!

I personaly wouldnt even bother with a pre-fab'ed box. I know its already purchased but those subs will sound way better in something a little bigger than 1.1ft^3.

That T-Harness seems to be the right piece of equipment for your setup. When i did mine, i just used a LOC from Kicker and it did the trick too.

For the second battery, you will need to have a proper rack built to support it, as well you should really have some sort of relay isolator installed.

Do you need a second battery? Probably not, but you can never have too much electrical upgrades.

Dont worry about the car, it will survive the drilling just fine Remember to grind away the paint before hooking it up and then spray some paint over it to keep it from rusting. Put the carpet back over top and no one will know the difference lol.

Good luck with the build, can't wait for progress pics!

Awesome Thanks for the reply. i have never been a fan of pre built boxes this was more of a get something quick so i can have some bass going in my car :P

Maybe i will just skip the 2nd battery for now and put in the second one when i decide to replace all the BA speakers. just need to line the pocket with some more cash first :P

though i was thinking do you think polyfilling the box some would maybe help till i decide to make the jump and build my own box? I can deal with running wires myself but Carpentry is definitely not my specialty. the trunk of my car is kinda a bitch too. quite small even the prefab box i need to sneak in through the drop down seats.

No problem man, glad I could help.

If you dont mind me asking, why are you planning on replacing the speakers? I have been very impressed with the upgraded stereos that manufacturers are now putting into cars. Seems more and more effort is being made to please the ears from the inside of the cabin as opposed to just the exhaust note on the outside haha. If the system sounds good already, you may actually hurt the sound by putting in a set of aftermarket speakers.

As for the polyfill, great question and one that i'm unfortunately unable to answer. I have read that polyfill is only good in limited (specific) amounts dependant on box size and such. I dont know the exact calculations though for it. Hopefully when everyone wakes up someone will chime in and help lol.

For the grounding of your system you don't need to drill any holes, I ran my ground back to the battery. It might cost you a bit more on wire but you can't get a better ground then that. IMO

x2 on what canadian_LX said about factory stereo's, they sound really good these days.

Ya, honestly i dont plan on doing any changes on the factory part of the stereo, its more or less if something happens i know a few people that have blown speakers already.

And For a longer ground like that i have heard you are safe to use like a welding ground is that true?

Something like (ported) 5 cubes @ 30-35hz will ****. Is the trunk huge? You might as well solder it if you won't drill.

Not sure if it's true or not but I used welding cable for both my power and ground. Worked out fine

Batt's in the trunk, so ground everything to that, and just upgrade the factory ground to 1/0 wiring.

Wiring a second batt will be a piece of cake... But finding a spot for it will be tricky.
