new build questions.. well alot of em.. lol

hey i'm rather new to the whole car audio scene. i've been meaning to build a system for quite some time now but everytime i get a car something always happens to it.. i'm still young so i was still getting myself into the right mindset to actually keep and maintain a vehicle. and at this point i don't have a vehicle because i'd like to plan a vehicle buy around a system.. i'm a bit of an audiophile.. lol

anyways.. being an audiophile i want to build a pure sound quality system as i listen to alot of metal and rock music aswell as electronic music. i want it to be loud and sound amazing at the same time with no distortion at higher sound levels.

Now my questions are this:

1. what brands are best known for sound quality as far as subwoofers, speakers, wires, amps, and headunits go?

2. should i run coaxils or component speakers?

3. will a system sound as good in a small vehicle such as a hatchback civic as it will in the back of a giant suv? i ask this because the length of the RCA's between the HU to the amp with greatly vary.

4. if i mix-match brands of my equipment will it sound as good as it would if it were all the same?

also build ideas would be great. i'm lookin for either 2 12's or 2 10's. maybe 2 speakers per door. as for amps. i'd like to over power the sbs and the speakers so they aren't starving for power. not quite to the max wattage rating but over the recommended rating.

i haven't set out a budget yet because i'm just getting this put together in my mind to throw into a vehicle when i get it.. i'm gong to be going to a car audio school called mobile dynamics when i get the money saved up for it so i'll be installing this all myself eventually. this build is not by any means happening right away cuz i'd like to go to this school first so i can do it all properly without having to wonder if i did it right.

anyways.. any input is much appreciated thank you

alright i've done some lookin around and i think i'm gonna go with a car with a trunk.. what would i have to do to wall a couple of 12's behind the rear seats without having the cones hit the back seat? i have some idea but still not really sure..

i'd like to be able to have people in the back and when theres not fold down the seats and have the subs exposed..

heres a very rough illustration of what i'm talking about

1. Multiple: Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, Eclipse....
2. Components will usually sound better if you buy the right set
3. Don't worry about the length of the RCA
4. You can mix, it's really not a prob...it's sometime ever better.

Now if you're an audiophile, you want to look for a car that's quiet, then you will need to strip the car and add some deadening and acoustical barrier. If you go with a quiet ride it will take less power to sound good and you won't damage your ears.

For the subs, basically you should go IB (infinite baffle) this way again you can power 2 subs with less than 500w. An IB setup require that you build a wall that seal the cabin from the trunk, it's a PITA to do but if done properly it's amazing. The more surface area the better so you should try to fit 2 AE IB15 in the "wall" (they can also do an IB12, but it's a special order).

try to stay under the 700w total for the system, this way you wont need to upgrade your electrical.

yes i was thinkin bout doin the wall behind the rear seats with the subs facing forward.. i'm sure i'll learn all about this at mobile dynamics.. but.. doing the wall would make the entire trunk the box for the subs? or..

Agreed, but a little biased towards the Kenwood. I have the X-991 and absolutely love it.
