Need recomendations for Kick panel woofer installation
#1
Gday, i decided to buy some 6.5 inch splits, but i am having trouble figuring out how to get it to sound the best. I havnt bought the splits yet, but i tested out the location with an old pair of 6.5's that i had lying around.
I am installing them in the kick panel, but i need your recomendation on how to get it to sound good, and weather sound deadening is required.
You can see here the location where i plan to install them:
I want to cover the panel with a 5mm or so board of MDF, then mount the speaker on it so it is relatively airtight and solid. The speaker will look somwhat like this, but mounted on MDF:
What recomendations can u give me to make this sound as best as possible? I dont think i will apply sound deadener, because their is a lot of **** in their that will be awkward to cover, do u think it will really matter since the enclosure is pretty airtight anyway?
Also, does it matter that the magnet will be flush up against the side of the car?
thanks.

Why can't all vehicles have kicks that big...snif snif. Get them angled up towards you some and definititely keep the magnets from touching or being close to metal. Use some green painters tape and tape off the inside of the area to seal it off, next take some spray adhesive and some fleece and glue it to the green tape. Resin the fleece and let it harden. Now you should have a solid back, bottom, top and sides of the area in the kick that you can remove from the vehicle and apply some fibreglass and resin to to strengthen it up.
Next make your baffle board and glass it to the now completed rear section. End result should be a completely sealed kick panel.
Go to www.the12volt.com and have a look in the fibreglassing forum, maybe have a look at Tim's great website as well, www.

I've heard that with very samll sealed enclosures, there are a lot of resonant peaks toovercome. Has anyone here experience with Aperiodic type kicks? Basically my understanding is that you leave a few square inch opening, sealed to the carpet. at higher frequencies it's supposed to act like a sealed box, and at very low notes, like an infinite baffle, with no large impedance spikes. Never tried it yet, but hope to soon.

my old 88 celica had these little boxes up front with 4 inch speakers in. They were about .2 cubes and had a membrane which fired to the floor. Kinda cool, but when I put new speakers in, they sounded better when I sealed the chamber up. I have heard that when done properly aperiodics sound pretty good
