Does MDF thickness from 0.5" to 0.75" make a difference for a 12" woofer?

depends on the power, but realistically (and I'll get slaughtered for this by the SPL knuckledraggers) 1/2" should be fine for any daily driving application, as long as it's properly braced, and the power is kept under 1000 watts

I will have 400RMS watts going through the intended 12" woofer..

i like 3/4"
but if you go 1/2" brace it well

If it's not thick enough, is it because the box is not heavy enough so the woofer would make it bounce around?

Or is it something to do with how "solid" the sound would sound?

One problem with anything smaller than 3/4" MDF is that it is harder to screw with out splitting it like a crazy. I think 3/4" is key for any sub/ amp combo, regardless of power. If you want 1/2" maybe look at baltic birch plywood, will not split but costs a pretty penny.

And yes the 1/2" will flex alot, and give you a bad sounding enclosure, and sloppy bass. Like everyone said you would need to brace it to make it solid.

my next box will be made of industrial birch ply... 50 bucks a sheet locally, so not to spendy
