At the shop I worked at, we had a flexible wire for taping power wire to, before you ran it through the firewall/grommet. Made power wire runs a lot easier. I looked around everywhere for one, with no luck. So I picked up this item from work:

The coiled up device. It is about 3' long, flexible enough to thread around wire bundles, but strong also. Tonight I pulled the spring sheath off of it, and used my Dremel to cut off the wide piece on the right hand side. Should work like a charm, for less than $20. Hope this helps a bit. But it cannot provide the same knuckle busting satisfaction as brute force and ignorance!

Even better is to take some thin tubing that your wire can run thru, sharpen the edges on a angle and use this to push thru grommets, then run your wire inside................then get a old screw driver handle and hollow it out to mount the tube in, it's easier on the hands...................

I also use some old power antenna tubes that has some jagged sharp edges on them, I put them in my drill and it drills out a perfectly clean hole in the rubber grommets...........................

Snap On also sells a fiberglass rod for about $16 that has a hoop on either end to hook the wire on, this tool is a lifesafer in door grommets....................
