Location of Batteries

I got a pair of freebe 12v wet cell batts. Right now they are wired in and sitting behind the back seat in my van,in a hold down tray. Not a the best place, IMHO. So I started building out the back channel bumper 14" from frame mounts, 11" deep and 43" wide. I have heard a rumour that putting batteries back here is again the law in Ontario?? But so is having wet cell batts in the passanger compartment!! No room under the hood cause the 7.3 deisel all ready has 2 batts there !HELP pls.

Not too sure if it is against the law, but I certainly would not want to have wet cells in my passenger compartment. They usually vent small amounts of toxic gas, which you would not want to be inhaling in the long term. Perhaps in the trunk it would be okay.
<edit> Well, in a van, I guess there is no trunk, but if you could find some way to seperate/isolate the batteries, it should be all good.

Thank you Lemonlime I agree it's NOT in my best intrest to have the batts in passanger space. I am going forward w/ this install anyway. Thinking of all the other stock and custom vechical's that have batts in the trunk I don't feel that this is a bad spot to put them [ gotta be better'n where they are NOW. ] Besides, the steel in the bumper is heavier gage than the frame. On a side note my life mate now refuses to drive van, afraid someone will get hurt. opps.

I was talking to a tow truck man, and he said regardless of where the battery is INSIDE the vehicle, it must be in an enclosure that's vented. It's nil in application to dry cell batts, so he says.

Check the post "It's alive,so far" , I"m adding an amp and sub. And hope to be able to play it for a couple of hours and not worry about draining batts so far as to not be able to start that 7.3 deisel. Pretty embarssing, yah know Besides how many other's will be like MINE ???
