Lights still dimming no clue wtf to do.

I pretty much finished the big 3 upgrade today. WIth 0guage wiring. Bass is nice and tighter now. my lights still dim like a ****ing bitch when my system is really cranked or at medium levels. dimming is slight but noticeable at the level which i listen to daily.

This is my setup :

Deck is a Kenwood excelon x 789.

Phoenix Gold Titaniuim 400.2 to power INfinity Perfect 6.1 components up front.

RE AUDIO 12.1 Amplifier to power RE AUDIO 12" XXX ported box.

0 guage power wire from the front to a fused distro block. Split into 4 guage as thats all the 12.1 will accept and same as the phoenix gold amp.

O guage battery to ground . 0 guage alternator + to battery +. 4 guage to various engine block ground.

Battery is a MotoMaster Eliminator 630CCA.

NOw the battery is pretty new.

Oh ya and alternator is a 180 Amp high Output Excessive Amperage ALternator...........

Now i need some suggestions/and or help to reduce my damn dimming thanks.

Well from what you've said it all seems pretty good. What kind of vehicle are we talkin' about? Are your lights dimming just at red lights or all the time?

If it's just red lights, then I would look into speeding up that HO alternator, with a smaller pulley, if possible.

The only bottleneck I see is your 4 ga. grounds. You've said you have 0 ga. pretty much everywhere, except for "4 guage to various engine block ground."

The ground off the battery, should have 0 ga. running to a good spot on the frame, body, AND a 0 ga. running to a good spot on the engine block. They're all important ones, as your amps are grounded to the frame/body at the back, so need a good path both to the battery and the alternator (engine ground). Get those cables good, and your bottleneck is just the welds in the vehicle itself. Your system doesn't seem to be overlly large (like my own), so running a 0 ga. ground all the way to the back may not be the solution, but couldn't hurt.

Get the battery tested, just to be sure.

And if you're still in the same boat after all that, I'd hook up an Optima battery, and/or a 1f or 2f capacitor.

Lots more of my electrical advice here: www.allstart.net/batadv.htm

with that capacity alt you should be able to run that system no problem. but like griz said your grounds should be 0ga, and maybe looking at a yellow top and caps as well. but start from the cheapest route first.

just for the info my alt is stock (prolly not more than 120 amp), and i have a hifonics brutus mono block and two fosgate punch amps. last night i was blasting my system and i got a a little dimming at idle running full tilt. but i do have a yellow top, big three, and 1 farad cap.

also look at getting some grounding terminals (picked some up from smartass real trick) to give you more surface ground area...................

As said above change all wires to be same 0 gauge wire and get a Optima or some sort of a deep cycle battery that has more umph. you shoudl see a big difference for sure.

iDS748 - When you kick the engine RPM's up by stepping on the gas and holding there for half a minute, do the lights still dim?
