lighted plexiglass.....

so, if one was to light up some plexi (the lights on the opposite side of the lit edge)and use L.E.Ds to do it with....would you use LED bars or just a few leds strategically placed? I am doing something similar with my amp rack and I am trying to figure it all out before I buy it.

I'd try the LED route. At work we have these mini/ small flashlights. They have an adapter made of plexi with an 90 on it. Boy can it through the light and run on almost nothing! Now you would leave the to be lighted end frosted, but do you polish the LED end? And would you counter sink the bulb into the plexi? I'm going to use LED's instead of other lighting myself. Some of us don't have much space to work with.

Here are some things that I have found when lighting plexi..............
1. LED's are great BUT you have to use alot of them to get even coverage on something like a amp rack........
2. LED's are great for small things but hard to look good on large pieces.........we just used some on the plexi rings we did in the JBL civic and it looked cool but I wasn't happy enough to do it in my own car. We used only 4 for a 12" plexi ring so maybe 8 would be better........
3. Neon rope (whatever you want to call it) I have found that it is never bright enough to get the coolest effect and you can't always cut it to size (only one I have seen allows you to cut it)
4. I think Polished plexi looks WAY better then frosted edges, but frosted looke WAY better when lit up with neon as like Derek said it is WAY more even around the edges.................
5. We use a TON of custom bend neon with external transformers which costs more but it is about 10 times brighter then ANY premade neon tubes.........anyone that has seen my Accord or Regal will agree. the Regal is INSANE !!
6. When money is a issue we use Neon license plate frames to light up plexi under amps. They are simple and cheap to use. We will take the plexi, cut the center out so that the plate frame sits inside, then we raise the amp slightly so that the neon tube is perfectly inline with the plexi edge so you get maximum coverage on all the edges.......the neon also shines up on the bottom of the amp and "flows" out the sides of the amps...........it is cheap and easy to do..........plus the plastic housing helps protecting the tube from being broken.................
Hope all the dribble drabble helps
