Kappa 6x9 Installation Problem - 99 Sunfire
#1
So I ordered Infinity Kappa 692.5i's (6x9).. and i was tryin to put 'em in tonight.. but ran into a bit of a problem. First problem, it was 1am, and it was kinda hard to see what i was doin. Second problem...
Theres some kind of spring on the trunk lid, that moves when you close the trunk, and with my reference speakers, theres still enough clearance to fit the speakers in there. However, the Kappa's have a different basket, and are a little bigger. With the Kappa's in, I wont be able to close my trunk because of that god damned spring. Any suggestions?
I'd rather not put them in 6x9 boxes and have them sittin on my rear deck.

^^^ What he said
I guess I was lucky my speaks dropped in from the top instead of mounting up under the rear deck. this gave me at least an extra inch clearence.
You have to get these installed they sound amazing I was in shock when I first hooked them up I'm only giving them deck power and they pound!!!

When i first got the car, there were no 6x9ès in it.. but i had my old reference 6x9s from my old car.. so i put those in.. bottom mounted them..
as for top mounting the kappas, the basket is a little too wide to fit in the hole. ill probably have to do some mdf rings. however my rear window is angled so much i dont know if i could fit a screw driver in there.

yep, i cut out some rings, and tried dropping it in, the magnet doesnt seem to fit through the hole with 2 mdf rings.. its a huge basket. i think i may need 3, or i may need to cut the hole bigger..
another option is, taking out that spring/bar.. and putting in a hydraulic posts that some cars use to prop the trunk open.. any ideas on how hard that would be?
