Install hickup. help needed!
Hi all,
there are two parts to this post.
One:
after a very long year i finally got amps to go with my DNX8120, and the new CDT's front and rear. when i had everything installed (removed the rca's from the Metra gmos-04 adapter going to hu) and hu connected to my new amps. i found i had this noise or i should say very loud whine with the engine off but ignition on. no noise when just on RAP (retained accessory power).
very weird.
i should also mention that my front amp would keep going into short protection. which i thought was caused by the tweets.. read below.
after checking and triple checking all connections i found that my new tweets were dead, but all else seemed to be fine. the only thing i could think of was that the gmos-04 was some how sending this noise to my hu. since it sends power and ground from the factory harness to the after market hu. so i set out to remove it from the system altogether thinking i have to get a new unit, maybe even a different brand. got to have those chimes and such you know!
after cutting it out of the loop and getting power and ground off a new fuse block i decided to install under the steering column with power direct from the battery, using relays to turn on my power triggered by the BMC (Body Control Module) connection for RAP. yes i did put a resistor across the coil (620ohm). i read that somewhere! turned it on and it worked for about 5mins than the front amp went into its whine stage again. very confusion. i switched the front rca's to the rear to see if maybe the deck was the problem and found it worked fine. now my deck has never been connected to an amp through the rca's but was connected to the gmos-04 this way.
why would it not have showed itself before? when connected to the adapter!
after running the front speakers only off the rear rca's today for several hours and last nite for about an hour with no problems at all. after a stop at a flee market the amp goes into protection mode again.. does that mean my rear rca's are toast now too??
im pulling the hu this week to have it checked/fixed under warranty. should i have the amp checked too. i was thinking of connecting my ipod direct to the amp to see what happens, but am unsure if an amp can send a signal back through the cable killing my ipod!!
Two:
I have heard (read) that it is possible to connect the Metra gmos-04 to a small speaker under the dash for the chimes to work. i want to keep the HU completely separate from the adapter no connection between the two.
is this possible and how to do it??
the hu has a connection to the adapter at the p-con which is the amp trigger wire, which i now have going to my amps. is this just to turn the adapter on?

04 Chevy Avalanche (Bose system, no onstar)
Kenwood DNX8120 HU
old Kenwood kac8401 for rears (bridged) - CDT CL-6EX
Arc KS 300.4 (bridged) - TW-22 (Dead), ES-02, ES-06+
Xover CDT MX-1000
No subs. yet!
