how to finish custom molded fibreglass... help me out

ok... so far i have fibreglass enclosure formed into the spar tire well wiht a frame made for 2 10 inch subs.. the top the speakers are angles out... i think im goin to wrap it in strecth fleece and resin it but i want a super smooth look... so i can paint.. is it best to gel coat and sand or what? any suggestions???

Gelcoat was the thing to do about 12 years ago when fiberglassing was pretty new. Now, you would sand down the fleece with 40 grit to get it decently smooth, then apply some filler to fill in the low spots, sand with 100 grit, primer, then 220 grit, then primer again and send off to body shop [img]smile.gif[/img]

rage gold is great bondo, mix fibregalss mat resin with your rage gold use your catalyst that you use(mekp) and mix it all together, resin catalyst and rage gold, if you want it thicker use more rage gold, it will give you a much smoother surface to try work with and still very hard
