How to connect rca's from mono amp to single sub out on deck
#13
i got a sony HU and i wanted to add a second amp(mids/high) to the sub's amp i alredy got but i only have one output(left/right) on my HU. I thought about using the Y's connection to get the both amps running. I dont know if its okay but since you say only one side(is used on most HU for bass signal) i should be okay with both amp?
The first is to split the 2 rcas into 3 or 4 as ppl have mentioned, you need to have both left and right going to your high amp to get stereo sound.
Second choice(if your amps have rca outputs??) is using the output rca's on one of the amps and just link one amp straight to the next.
Either way works, it's only the voltage level of the RCA's at the amps you might need to think about.
Unless your HU has a 4-5 volt output(not likely) I agree with splpassat about a possible adding a linedriver. Or a better deck at some point.
So, when you have it all hooked up, and you crank the gains, if you're not getting the volume, a LD would bring the input voltage at the amps up allowing you to turn the gain down ( generally better sq)
