help!!! whining speakers!!!!

Hey people, so this it the deal

Current setup:

Headunit: deh-p4650mp
Amplifier: Hifonics BXI1608D
Sub: RE SX

The problem: When power is to deck, and I put volume level 1 or higher… there is a whining noise coming from the rear speakers, when I disconnect RCA’s the noise stops…. When I reconnect it starts….. when I mute the sounds… it stops… start it starts… regardless of weather car is on or off (meaning I don’t think its alternator whine)

Solutions attempted:
Tried to:
-Run new wire to rear speakers directly from Head Unit on opposite side of amp power wire.
-Ran RCA on opposite side of car as amplifier power wire
-Shortened the ground to about 8 inches
-Tried 2 separate mounting points for the ground

Things to note: when changing the balance on HU, (moving foreward or rearward, the subwoofer looses and gains power…) this leads me to believe that the rca preout on the rear of the deck is for the rear speakers…. Don’t know if this would do anything though.

Thank you for any help!!!!
ps. sorry if this is in the wrong forum

This often means a bad ground, which forces your amp (or head unit) to ground itself through your RCA cables. A very bad situation. Check that the head unit and amp both have good ground connections. I see you shortened the amp ground but is it against bare metal? A paint free connection is important. Same goes for the head unit. Good clean ground. I recently installed an alpine navigation unit in a friend's nissan maxima and his factory ground wire (according to the wire harness manufacturer) turned out to not be true ground. I had to ground it to a bolt in the dash after which it worked fine.

k ill give that a try.... so when you say you re-grounded the HU where exactly did you ground it to? and from? the ground in the harness or did you attach a ground to the outside of the HU?

Could also be the head unit itself. I have seen numerous threads from guys with Pioneer decks with noise issues. The onboard noise suppresion is not very good on the Pioneers. Some guys have found grounding the RCA's to the chassis of the deck helps.

what you can try is this. splice the ground wire and ground it to a metal surface somewhere close to where the deck is. makesure the metal surface you are using is actually grounded itself.

if that doesnt help, try grounding the back of the deck itself to some grounded metal surface.

By the sounds of it you have the preout for the sub hooked to the rear preout on the cd player. Verify of there is a sub preout on the deck first. It sounds like you do not have a amplifier for the front and rear speaker, is this correct or was it missing in your item list? If you have no other amplifiers in the system other than the sub amp and you are getting noise from the front and rear speakers, it is a issue with the cd player itself or a hidden factory amp. To me it is sounding like a cd player issue. Does it make noise on tuner functions or just on CD?

update....

wrapped a wire around the rca's grounded on both sides... no effect.... same wierd buzzing

it kinda sounds like when in the movies people are tuning a radio for frequency and the sound goes up and down... that what it sound like...

sanded all grounds...

reground the deck

then grounded the chassis of the deck to the car aswell....

NO EFFECT.....

ps. the system use to have a subwoofer.... and there was never this problem... only when new wires were run, and the new sub/amp combo were installed....

Some decks with only 2 sets of preouts can make the rear ones do double duty.
In the setup menu look for words like "full" or "non fading" which mean you can change those rear preouts from full range speakers (like 6x9's for example) to subwoofer preouts.

Did you use the factory harness ground? You can use it, then also put a screw with a ring terminal in the back of the deck and attach it like Yuli said, use the firewall.

EDIT: We were posting at the same time

Are your power wires running beside your RCA's by any chance? Just thinking about the rewiring part of your post. The shielding may not be all that spectacular on some RCA's and they can pick up noise from a big *** power wire running beside them.

i connected a piece of 14awg to the chasis (after sanding) then used a marret (connector) to connect to ground on harness... this did nothing.... then i ran a second piece to and connected it to the screw beside the RCA out..... and that did nothing at all...... i then sanded the area where the sub amp is grounded... that did nothing.....

so then i got a little lazy to pull out the rca so i cut off the ends on 1/2 of it and grounded it.... that didnt do anything either.......

as for the full and nonfading thing... ill have to look into that...
