Help a newbie - no sound from new head unit
Ack... I'm completely new to this stuff, but it looks like I might be in the right place to find some folks who know all about it. I would like to install a new head unit in my 2001 Suburban, but seem to be having some difficulty.
To be specific, I'm attempting to replace the factory stereo in my '01 Suburban (a Delco FM20EV) with a new Sony GT310 (cheap yeah, but all I need). I went down and picked up a wiring harness (Scosche model # GMDA) and an installation kit for the dash.
I managed to get the wiring harness wired up per the instructions that came with it, and cross checking against this guide. Then I popped out the old radio and connected up the new one. Powered it up and the LCD came to life (good sign), stuck in a CD and hit play but no sound (not a good sign). Tried the radio as well, but also with no luck.
So now I'm wondering about the second wiring plug on the back of my old radio and why it's not connected to anything on the new radio. There are two plugs on the old radio, but only one that is compatible with the wiring harness. (Photos are on my website., thumbnails linked below.) From what I can tell I've got everything wired up correctly, but no sound whatsoever. (And I'm fairly certain I don't have the new radio on mute or anything really dumb.)
Anyone out there able to point me in the right direction? What am I doing wrong???

Pinout diagram
In case it's any help, I've made up a PDF file with the pinouts (as best I can determine) and some photos.... There are six wires that I can't figure out on the in-dash harness.

The first thing that came to mind, Hook up the "L" to the "L" of your sony deck! Power antenna, some GM's have a stock built in amplifier and they require the remote turn on! I may be wrong, but I know my blazer was the same way, The stock speakers wouldn't work until I had the remote hooked up , which was in No books whatso ever! Good luck!

Thanks, I'll give it a try
Decided I didn't like the wiring job I did last night, so I've undone all the connections, but I'll give that a shot. Need to go get myself a proper soldering iron and I'll do that this afternoon... Will let you know how it turns out.

Or faster if I crimp it... No joy. Still no sound. Rrrrrr... I wouldn't have thought it should be this complicated...
Should I be grounding the head unit directly to the frame instead of splicing it to the vehicle's ground wire???
