Um, I thought the Zune was like an Ipod, so I figured you had a headphone jack and could control the volume on the player itself, so the auxillary cable would have just turned the van into headphones. That way too you can set the deck volume to whatever level you want with the Zune at the max level you'd play it at and when necessary turn it down, effectively eliminating the deck remote. Shows what I know eh? My bad

Yes, the Zune definitely does have a headphone jack. Even though I wouldn't have full control of the deck because I wouldn't have the remote (which isn't that big of a deal), I didn't know that running a cable from my headset jack on my Zune to the deck would work. I'd be able to control everything with my Zune that way, not just the volume? That's pretty cool and may be the way to go.

I just checked it out Pioneer's website, and I will say that I really like the FH-P8000BT here . Do you guys think that it would fit in my van?

Thanks

Thats what I do when I run my phone in my van. I just make sure the volume is maxed out or close to maxed on the phone and then make adjustments through the deck. Learned that little trick hooking up 2 mixers at one party. I know too with Pioneer decks that have a usb setting when you unplug the device it turns the deck off. the aux setting maye leave the deck on, but if you do get a deck with a remote you could try just shutting it down, or get the driver to do it. If I remember correctly though as long as no device is plugged into the deck regardless of volume there is no feedback. Then yeah you can control just about everything from the Zune. Majority of the things you'll change will be the song, which would be on the Zune, and volume, which can be the Zune. To make it easier for you could could set the Zune at say 70% volume and then turn up the deck to compensate for the missing 30% until it reaches the loudest level you plan to listen to it at and just leave it at that setting, then when needed either turn it up or down on the Zune for fine adjustments if that is easier. Just a suggestion of course. I've never really come across a situation like this so I can only suggest what I think would work, you've also got to tinker with the setup yourself to find the balance that works best for you.

As for the deck, I think they were 1.5 din, and that deck is double, so it might need a little extra work to get it to fit, or you might strike out and it might not fit at all.

if I recall Pioneer and Kenwood have wired external remotes or even just a simple remote eye extension.... possibly also available on some Sony units.
any single din deck will fit your van with the use of a mounting plate that will make it fit like a factory installed unit... double din...dont waste your time

btw Ive never heard of a zune till now... looks like a contender for iPod pretty sweet looking too

the zune is basically an ipod by microsoft, I think, I really don't know that much cuz I was using cd's up until october of last year, then its been usb drives since.

as for the help, I think it was time I contributed something useful to the boards again. Soon enough I'll be back to talking smack about how I'm the Brett Hart of bass race, cuz I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.

I am indeed rather direct and to the point. I guess it comes from years of background and being able to read into what the customer needs or prefers. The Eclipse CD5030 is indeed one of the units that I would short list. It is a little higher than your estimate at $330.00 + gst and shipping however. I will throw in a nice ball cap if I still have one. It will offer to you substantially more abilities than any other cd player in the category, such as the Bluetooth addition. The kit and harness for your vehicle I also stock as well and I will even prewire them for you to make installation a breeze. Warranty on the unit is also 3 years, 2 years longer than most other units in the category. I would highly recommend this unit and the extra little budget stretch for it.
