Has anyone done an 81 trans am - dash details

Hey guys need some help here with a 81 Pontiac trans am dash. heres what im doing.

installing speakers front and back
installing 4 channel amp
running all the wiring
Installing a new pioneer head unit

The questions -

The dash currently is a silver faceplate with an old radio cassette player, no body makes a faceplate to hold the new pioneer unit in this location so IT has to be cut or newly fabricated. I called several shops and there is no manufacturer that makes the standard holder. Have any of you guys done this or have links to how and where it was done?

What do i have to do to complete this install? Dont worry about the specs or amps or what speakers, just the dash.

Thanks

John

You have to cut it. I had to do this to tooooo many back in the day.

Is the factory radio still in there. If so, and the car has AC, you're in for some fun.

After you take off the ***** and the shaft nuts, and I can't remember if there is a back brace, you take out all the ductwork above the pedals and sneak it out back through the dash and through the driver's footwell. IIRC it takes some time and lots of cursing.

the unit comes through the drivers foot well? there enough room for that? also is there a bezel left? like once the radio has been removed do you then measure and cut for the cage? Seems relatively straight forward.. how do i remove the ductwork just standard screws and bolts to remove? sorry i have not been in this vehicle as of yet.

Do you have any pictures at all?

No pics. Can't remember screws in the ductwork. It might be all friction fit.

The factory deck attaches right to the dash if I remember right (I've done a lot of them but all over 15 years ago) so you have to cut a 2" x 7" hole for the can right into the dash. Sorta permanent mod...
