Oh, but you can spend tons of time on an install, doesn't mean you're doing any mechanical tuning. For example welding up beautiful amp racks and such can take lots of time, same with nice painted fiberglass. There are alot of installs that have thousands of hours into them, yet the speaker install took 15 minutes!

Dereck, I think you have a very valid point about WHERE time is invested in an install. I'm certainly guilty of indulging in non-sound related details, but it's part of the fun for me.
I think your effort to put an MTM front stage in your Beetle is a good example where time can be WELL spent. How is that coming? I remember you posted some pictures of the box build up a while back.
I'd also like to make one simple point clear about my use of the H900. I wanted a better D/A than what my deck provides. Having compared what good home external D/As sounded like vs. my deck, I started looking for a viable canidate. My list of possible D/As included Wadia, California Audio Labs, Theta, and Macintosh(the 12V model). I was even talking with 2 industry contacts about custom building something for my car.(turned into a 5 figure project, so it got canned) In the end, I chose a simple 1 box design that had everything I needed to go between the optical output of my deck, and my amplifiers. With one product, I got the D/A upgrade I was seeking, removed the Audio Control DQX from the signal path, removed the signal processing "cards" from the amps(simplified the signal path), and shortened my interconnect lengths.
In a world where K.I.S.S. rules, I'd just become King!
