grand am wiring question

so ive bought a satelite radio and i want to install it keeping it all clean so what i did was i went out and bought another cigarette lighter adapter and i want to wire it so that it only works when the battery is on or the car started exactly how my deck works.

can someone help me out with what wire on my wiring harness on my 99 grand am and tell me what one to wire this to?

or even suggest somewhere better?

Yup, two ways of doing it, either u take your deck out and wire the 12 volt female adaptor to the +12v ignition and the ground wire, or you go to www.bulldogsecuirty.com as it is free and then look for the ignition wire, and its color...get a multi meter, test the wire for +12v when ignition is on, and no voltage when the keys are removed, then once youve deteremined u have the rigth wire solder in the 12 V cigarte female adaptor to it adn then ground the the ground wire to a good clean metal surface. hope that helps! enjoy

yeah then depending on how much more draw you want from added things like screens ur gonna wanna either solder a line onto the ignition wire, or wire the screens to a larger gague wire or to the battery, and wire in the proper switch, if ud rather seperate ur screens (and which ever else u choose) functionality from you sat radio (which doesnt draw that much) just wire ur sat radio to the ign on the deck or your steering column and like i said wire the other stuff to the batt. fusing it and puting a the proper inline switch obviosuly...theres other ways of adding those screens in and controling their power but id depends on a few things...

yeah thats what i was thinking too.

im just going to wire it up to the wiring harness on my deck and i can wire the ground to the ground wire.

so basically on my decks wiring harness i'll just do power on power and ground on ground.
that should do it.

and than when i add my screens i could run them off a whole new line and fuse.

Um, no, not unless you want to go buy a new sat radio. All of the new sat radios operate on a much lower voltage than the standard 12v. The actual cigarette lighter plug itself has a circuit in it to drop the voltage. This circuit must be retained. So you need to take the cig lighter apart and solder new wires into it at the proper spot. Not quite as simple as you were hoping for.
