Fuse?

Ok so wiring kit that I had installed has a 100amp fuse thats attached to the power line.
I may purchase a new amp that has 2 70 amp fuses equalling 140amps (Hifonics)
will i need to purchase a bigger fuse?

Fusing is for the power wire. Not more than 125A on a 4 gauge, and around 200 on a 2 gauge.

I got my Knukonceptz 4AWG with a 200A fuse and have had no issues. If its one of those cheap, 'not a true 4 AWG' wiring kits, i suggest going to this site: www.knukonceptz.com You can't go wrong for the prices.

But, if its a quality wire, throw on a 150A fuse

Safety is what is at state here in case something happens like if the car is hit and a power surge happens. I could use a 300A fuse on a 8 gauge wire with no issues, as long as nothing happens, but if there is a surge for whatever reason, there might be an issue like a fire.

theres no way you could flow 300A thru 8 AWG wiring. the insulation would begin to melt. thats like saying i could wire the city blocks transformer with 12/2 BX...

The point is the wire will melt, then cause a fire BEFORE the fuse blows.... the fuse is intended to blow BEFORE the wire lites your car up.....

And that is why you should use a safer lower amperage fuse, as I was making a point to your earlier comment that you're having no problems with a 200A fuse on your 4 gauge, as you wont be having any problems with a 300A fuse, all I am saying that if there will be a problem your 200A on a 4 gauge may or may not save your car from igniting. Anything higher than 125 on a 4 gauge is comprimising safety, but only if something does happen, otherwise you can run smoothly even with a 10000000A fuse on your 4 gauge wire. lol
