I wanted to move the location of my amp (4 channels powering all four speakers). Right now it is mounted on the box and now i want to move it to the rear seat because its getting a little crowded with the capacitor.

I was going to move the amp but then found out that the speaker wires don't reach the amp to its new location.

I know you can extend the speaker wire by soldering or crimping the two wires together. But will this degrade the sound? Are there any other ways and which one is the best option?

As said in the second post I would only solder and shrink tube them, an no it will not degrade the sound as long as you keep the same gauge. If you running 12 don't add 22 or something like that. Try and stick with the same thickness.

i couldn't read what the wire said cause it was covered in tape... I'll look into it further when I'm going to do the move, but i did get a small piece of wire. The piece didn't have any writing on it but i counted ~16 strands of cooper in the wire...is that 18 gauge?

Strands dont tell a whole pile, but just be sure to keep the total thinkness of copper the same between them.

Could you tell what the gauge is if you looked at it? If so here's a pic....

Its the 8 wires below the 2 blue ones, for reference the thick yellow cable is 4 gauge.

I think you're putting way too much thought and concern into this. It looks like 16-18 gauge wire. Use either gauge, whatever you have lying around.

I doubt you or anyone else will be able to tell the difference if you used a slightly smaller gauge. In the whole scheme of things, splicing these wires will not make or break your system.

sorry about being too picky, but i wanna get this done rite and not have to worry about it latter. Problems keep happening time and time again. So i guess ill just go with 16 gauge.
