Enlighten Me ...

O.K. Couple questions about front staging for the SQ guys,

1) Why do people set speakers horizontally next to each other? Would vertically not be better? I realize space is usually a factor, but where would be the best placement on a door?

2) Is it better to run the same size driver for both mid & midbass? ie. 1 6.5 comp. set with extra 6.5 midbass vs 1 6.5 comp. set. with 8" midbass?

I currently have 2 sets of RF 6.5 components. One set in front door factory locations with tweets in pillar & sail bezel and 1 set in rear sliders also factory locations. I'm considering moving the rear comps to the front, but plan to get new components soon enough and was thinking about possibly running 8" midbass with 6.5 components. All separately crossed over of course.

So please help me decide what to do... my bass is gonna be going up soon so I'll need to do something with these doors. I've still got the 800a2 to nicely power a couple mid bass drivers. If I pull the rear sliders out the 800a4 could be dedicated to just the front doors .... SO MANY DECISIONS!!!!

I'm open to ideas!

A pic of my door currently.

I was asking myself the same question about the hotizontal vs vertical...

Are you looking for a SQ setup or a setup that will sound good at very high volume?

Most interested in SQ, but it's gonna have to get loud also. I've got 3-12's to keep up with. The two sets of components and 8" isn't necessarily out of the question either .....

SirSleepAlot have a pair of CDT ES-06 in each door and got 129.9 on the SPL-190 (audiocontrol)... With a pair of 6.5 and lots of deadener you can achieve amazing results

Doors currently covered in Dynamat. That's interesting info ... thanks. I'll keep the twin 6.5's in mind.

If it was my car, this is what I would do:

Pic 1: Get rid of that thing inside of the box i drew. SHould be able to come off nice and clean. This will allow you to utalize room on the door panel itself

Pic 2: Fiber glass what i drew around (pretending that thing isnt there anymore). I believe Thumpperr has done something like this on his build with the 4 15" Xcons. Utalizing that space will give you lots of room to play with and will be easy to glass.

Pic 3: Just an example of using the area on the door panel

I see that as being an option, but it would be pretty low on the door and the midbass at the legs.

Which brings me back to question 1. Would placing vertical not be better. If I'm going to glass a cover, it's not going to matter really where I put them.
I wish I had pictures of my Astro doors.

I was thinking something around here. I plan to remove the map pocket.

The tweets and mids are vertical already....putting one or two MB drivers around knee level will work fine....it's not that directional a range of frequencies.....

Soooo....you can run the comps active off the 800a4 and the MB driver(s) off the 800a2. That sounds like a pretty strong front stage to me......
