I'm very new to car audio, but have managed to purchase two 10" pioneer subs. It is used and second rate. I can't tell what material the enclosure is because it is carpeted, but the wood splinters off in some parts and it feels pretty heavy. The two speakers are seperated inside the box, and both sides are ported with PVC. The amplifier is an old 900W Legacy Amplifier, and the speakers say 350watts on the cone.

I don't have alot of money so for the time being I have eliminated my two rear speakers and used a line out level converter to run the subs. My deck is factory and the cassette player doesn't work right.

I hate feeling like a project is half done, and this is a total mess.

I guess I could just post pics so that you could see for yourself, which I will do tomorrow.

Bottom line I need a deck, I need to do the wiring job right the first time(cause now I have to do it all over), and I need a new enclosure.

Well I dont have a deck, my wiring sucks, and my enclosure sucks. The first of these i want to get started on is my enclosure. Right now, my amp is loose in the trunk wedged into the corner. I want to conceal the amp, behind a new enclosure. How do I determine which enclosure and what materials to use? How about the positioning of the speakers? Do I angle them on sperate sides of the trunk, keep the same style of box I have now, or face them inward toward eachother and enclosed?

Thanks for any advice.

What's your budget??

Do you feel comfortable in building things yourself with wood?

Do you have any tools?

Do you have any woodworking skillz?

A few things right off the bat.

1. Sounds like your setup may be unsafe at best. So gut it out of the car.

2. Get the model numbers on the subs and get a hold of Pioneer USA and ask for a recommendation on the enclosure design that best suits the subs. They should be able to give you an enclosure type (hopefully sealed as it’s the easiest to build) and the necessary box internal volumes per sub.

So far, all this should cost you nothing except time.

3. Box building. Make a box out of 3/4" MDF found at your local hardwood store. They may even be able to cut the wood for you for a nominal fee (Home Depot) or at least make a few of the bigger necessary cuts. Make the box to match Pioneer USA recommendations. Glue and dry-wall screw the thing together........ Finishing the outside ........... up to your imagination. A cheap way........ buy two cans of rocker guard and spray the enclosure down (before installing the subs BTW !!!) Location of the box depends on the type of car. But generally, behind the rear seats facing the back of the car works well.

4. Decks. Look on Ebay or on any of the forums for a good but cheap deck. You do not need all kinds of bells and whistles. Those are just a waste of your hard earned cash. You should be able to get something decent for about $100 to do the job. Make sure it has power out (for speakers) and at least one set of RCA outs for your sub amp. Also try the local pawnshops. Make sure you don’t get rooked by asking to see pictures of the deck you are buying powered up. Best if you can find a local buy so you can go check it out in person. Or try and get someone who has good feedback or a recommendation from someone else.

5. Do not fasten the amp to the box. Bad for that very entry level amplifier and way too easy to steal both the amp and the box with one lift. Fasten it securely to the floor or under the rear deck......

6. Wiring. Buy the right size wiring for your amplication. There are some online link here somewhere that can help you with that. AND PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PROPERLY FUSE ALL YOUR POWER WIRES WITH THE PROPER SIZE FUSES.

Anyways, that’s a start…………….. other’s here can probably add to this. Best of luck with the system.

You might be able to mount the amp under the driver/passenger's seat depending on clearance (some people don't like this because of rear seat passengers with wet shoes, but all of my connections are on the front and I haven't had a problem yet).
Make sure that you run that Amplifier in Stereo. Do not bridge it if it has that option. Legacy will likely say "2 ohm stable" but that means it is 2 ohm per channel in stereo which works out to 4 ohm bridged. And those pioneer subs will be 4 ohm.
If you post the Sub model (TS-W25?? most likely) we could help you out as well with designing and building an enclosure.
As for wiring, for that Amp you will need 8 AWG, if it is smaller upgrade it.
What type of car is it?
All of the other Q's that Dawgsbreakfast asked are good to know also. And, to strongly echo Dawgsbreakfast: "FUSE EVERYTHING! DO NOT CUT CORNERS WITH FUSES!" Fuses prevent fires, meltdowns and unnecessary insurance claims.
