Deck Wireing Problems.

Well I am on the last stage of my 1st audio build up. 1977 Monte Carlo. Now, my problem.
The last 2 wires I have to hook up are the Alt. Remote, and the +12v, from the deck.
I found one wire under my dash, from the previous radio, that is the Alt. Remote. Then I found another wire that is +12V. I hooked them together, but got nothing from my deck.
Then it suddenly worked, because the 2 wires, the +12 and Remote, were touching.
So basically, when both those wires are touching eachother, then my deck works, if not, they it does not work.
I then again checked the both wires. Still has the Alt Remote. But now the wire I tested with +12v, now has nothing comming from it.

Also, when I touch both wires together, my interior light finally works, along with the door buzzer, and deck.
Is this safe for the deck, or not.

more info on your wires
what wires are to what ?blk to blk ,red to red
and tell us what works in the car and what does not work in the car

try running a wire form the battery to the deck + and - and the two wires that you have now to each othere and tell us what happens

ps you just need the hood open to run the wires for now

You should drive to your nearest installer before you bugger something important.

As I read it, you took your IGN wire in the car and touched it to some random 12v constant wire in the car? And now the 12v constant wire is dead? Look for blown fuses. The fact that your door chime, dome light (and likely lighter) are out means you blew that fuse - they're all on the same one.

Your 77 is too old to have a contstant 12v wire for the radio. Your choice is to tap into the lighter orange wire (after replacing that fuse) or run right to the fuse box with the yellow from the deck. GM has spare taps on their fuse box for BATT as well as IGN and ACC.

If all this sounds foreign, please go see an installer. It'll be $40-50 to get the deck in and not have to worry about it.

Also, this is an INSTALL problem, not a technical discussion.

New update. I got her all wired up properly, but now when I turn my car on, and the deck fires up, Im not getting any Remote to my amps. I checked all of the Remotes on my amps with a tester, and Im getting 0.
I checked on the back of my deck, both blue wires, the white stripped one and solid blue, both 0.
Hmm ?

Edit again. Sorry.

Ok replaced all fuses in the car. Got a +12V, and a Ign. Remote, which was yellow from the factory so it all worked out.

Now, deck fires up great etc.
On the back of the deck there is a solid blue wire, and a blue wire with a white strip. I was told the solid blue was the Remote I run to the amps.
I did, but no power.
Did the same with the blue w/ white strip, nothing.

Did a test and connected the remote wire from my amps, to the yellow Ign. Remote that is also connected to my deck.

Everything fired up. 1st time pumping my very first whole custom system, and it felt amazing.

Anyways. Now with running the amp Remotes in with the deck ign remote, the deck cuts out because lack of power.

So, I eather need to find another Ign. Remote wire under the dash, or find out whats wrong with the 2 blue wires that have nothing comming from them.

The 2 blue wires from the deck should work. You've hurt something inside the deck. Sometimes they have a built in 'fuse-istor'. But once it's fried, it's fried.
As for power to the deck, constant and ignition, you can use a relay and give it power direct from the fuse box or battery.

I tapped into my amp power wire under the dash, with a 15-amp fuse and 14 ga. wire and a relay. The constant goes direct to the deck; the ignition feed is switched by the relay to the decks switch feed. You can split off the same ignition feed, with another 1 or 2 amp fuse for your amp remote.

Good Luck!!

Hey the problem with not getting power to your amps, this happened to me when I installed my system. It turned out to be that my remote wire going to my CD player was bad. I went back to the amp's manual and it said that if you don't have a remote wire or if the remote wire doesn't work to hook it up to the 12v power for the CD player and that sould take care of it. It worked for me hopefully it will work for you.

My deck was cuting out too at first. The problem for me was that in the plug in on the back on the deck where all your speaker wires connect; the one for the power was loose. All I had to do was secure the power wire in to the plug better.
