Deck install on 2008 chevy crew cab w/onstar
I'm looking to do a double din dvd deck install on a 2008 chev truck with Onstar and steering wheel controls. I'd like to keep all of this if possible, Is there a kit to do this or is there going to be a wiring nightmare? Thanx guys

Depending on how good you are with installing and understanding electronics, you could do it yourself.
I had some install places tell me they wouldn't even attempt a complicated install like that on a new vehicle. I had others who just wanted to charge me a small fortune.
I have a Lanstar interface from Soundgate. It comes in 4 different versions depending on your vehicle. make sure you get the right one.
I use the SWI-ALP steering interface, again, make sure you get the right one.
Make sure your deck is made to be controlled by an interface.
On my car, onstar, chimes, and turn signal clicker don't come thru the radio anymore. the interface kills power to the radio and onstar/chime uses extra speakers i hid under the dash. all work just about perfect with my Alpine system. the steering control works but doesn't have enough buttons to use all the features alpine offers. And I did it all myself.

Looks like I found an adapter for the onstar stuff and Alpine says they are going to have an interface for the steering controls out soon. It is a non-Bose system, so that should help a bit. I might just run the amp and subs first then wait a few more months to see what becomes available for the deck install. I have been doin custom installs for years and am pretty confident i can do it
