Couple more amps, how to hook them up?

I was looking for a nice powerful 4 channel rockford amp for my 6.5's and 6x9's but they are way to pricey. So my buddy sold me couple of kenwood amps for 100 bucks, KAC744 and KAC742 and I dont know anything about them..

Will these be worth the install on my punch door and deck speakers? and if so how should I go about doing it, I've never installed an amp other than a couple mono blocks on my subs.

P1692 75w rms 150 max 6x9s in fiberglass pods in rear deck.
P1653 60w rms 120 max 6.50s in sealed front doors.

I'll toss some pictures up when I get a chance!

Take a look at the MB Quart DSC4125. It'll do 125w x4 @ 4ohm 250w x 4 @ 2 ohm or 500w x 2 bridged @ 4 ohm. I recently got mine, it came to $174 canadian to my door off of fleabay.

I'm broke dude, and I spent 100 bones on these already. I wasn't looking for another amp I just wanted to know if it'd be worth it to hook these up and if it was how to do it. I can live with how my car sounds now but I just have to keep the sub level low to hear everything else lol. Thanks anyway!

Yes it is worth it.....those amps will do a nice job for your mids and highs and you will need to set the gains for all of the amps once you have them in the car.

Without knowing what you have for a deck and it's output abilities (#of RCAs, built-in EQ etc. etc.).....

Here's what I would do:

Use the 744 on your front speakers....there is a switch on the amp to use it in 2 channel mode, the manual for it is here and it shows how to do this correctly.

Use the 742 on the 6X9s.....same story with the switch, manual for this amp is here.

You should Xover the 6.5s around 90hz and the rears around 70hz as a starting point.....if your deck has separate front and rear RCAs you will have full fader function.

Both amps have output jacks for the sub amp, if you are going to use one of them use the ones on the front amp, that way your fader will still work properly.

Setting all this up will be a little tricky if you've never done it before.....if you want a hand PM me....I know Simcoe isn't exactly around the corner for me but I do end up in Brantford and/or Woodstock/London for work regularly and maybe we can meet somewhere and git 'er done.....

Thanks man I really appreciate the help! Little dissapointment for me yesterday because I went to Audio Ave (local car audio supply) to get my RCA cables and speaker wire, and decided it would be a good idea to get them to test the amps for me before getting to deep into this.. the 742 worked perfectly but the 744 put 12volts right back into the speakers when the remote was connected so he said it was pooched..

Oh well, I looked into a Clarion 4 channel because they were the cheapest and if I'm spending that kind of money I want something to max out the speakers. I was told they can handle about 150w each and an amp to do that will cost min 450 bones.. ouch..

So I got all I need to hook up the 742, two sets of RCA cords, and 15 feet or so of 4-16 wire (four 16 guage wires in a white insulator? first time using it)

I've got an Alpine RCA-9886 by the way, I was told to just splice into the speaker wires behind the deck because it's not worth running new wire directly from the door speakers because stock is good enough lol

Ouch indeed.....first thing I'd do now is get $50 back from your 'buddy'.....and if he won't, well, what can I say....

They might handle it but you don't need anywhere near 150W to get decent sound out of them. For now, I would still bridge the 742 but use it on your fronts and leave the rears on deck power for now.

Assuming you have a separate sub amp already hooked up to the sub outs on the deck, put both sets of RCAs in and run them to the back. While you have the deck out, remove the front speaker connections on the harness and splice your 4-16 wire to the speaker leads and run that back to the amp with the RCAs.

Powering the fronts with the 742 and the rears off the deck maintains fader function and will sound a lot better than running all 4 corners off the amp with a lot less power.

That deck has a lot of 'tuning' functions and you should be able to get it setup and sounding good......if you want a hand with it this weekend I will be out in my driveway Saturday afternoon helping another member with a problem speaker. I know it's a bit of a drive from Simcoe, what can I say......

I would ask for my money back for that blown amp but he was given the amps for free and was told they both worked and to sell them to make a little money for himself cause he really needed it.. so I cant blame him for it and it was a few months back anyway lol

and alright hopefully I can start hooking everything up tomorrow, I lost the keys to take my deck out cause I was going to start last night and now I'm not sure what to do lol. I'll get it out somehow. and yeah I like the idea of leaving the 6x9s on deck power, fronts sound better anyway. I'll see how far I get and make sure to throw an update on here tomorrow, and some pics of how my box looks after I painted it.

I think I need to make an amp rack too, the amps on the back of the box now but it sounds like cause the plastic cover vibrates in the middle LOUD on certain tones. It's a Rockford P1000-1BD, drives my P3 10s perfectly and sounds good but I'm not a fan of all the plastic...
