Component Speaker Install
#1
Hey guys, I'm just getting around to installing my Alpine sound system into my truck. I have a question regarding the installation of my speakers though.
I put Alpine SPS-570A 5"x7" coaxial speakers (40 watts RMS) in the rear and have no problem.
I am now about to install my front speakers. The factory had 5"x7" installed. I purchased 6 1/2" Alpine SPS171A component speakers (50 watts RMS) for the front. The stereo guy told me it would easily fit into the 5"x7" space if I made an adaptor (or even bought one).
My question: Has anyone ever made an adapter for this setup before? I would really appreciate any pictures or advice from anyone who may know how to do it. I think I can come up with a way, but I would like to hear some other ideas. I think I won't have room for the tweeters near the speaker meaning I will mount the tweeters somewhere else. I'm not exactly sure where I will mount them now.
Also, one more question: the deck that will be running my speakers is an Alpine CDA9833. I believe it is 26w or 27watts per channel. Will my speakers sound good? If everyone thinks they won't sound great being powered from the deck, I may end up getting an amp to power them. Which leads me to my final question. When running these speakers from an amp, will I need to run new wires? or will the wires that are currently running to the speakers be sufficient enough to handle an amp?
I appreciate any advice that you guys have on these topics,
Adam

I would pick up some 1/4" or 1/2" fiberboard or MDF from Home Depot, remove the factory speaker and trace the outline of it onto the MDF. Cut it out, and cut out the hole for the 6 1/2". As far as the deck power is concerned, try it out and see. The factory wires should be ok, if you go with an outboard amp I might run new wires in there. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for the help JeepBeats. Sorry I didn't give you a call today, just so damn busy. I bought some 1/4 fiberboard and am going to try the install hopefully sometime this week. I'll let you know how it goes.
