Component Crossover Positioning

i VOTE FOR THE TRUNK.
Doors are bad because of moisture or vibration.
Under dash is bad because of interference from all the cars electronics.
It doesn't matter how long your wires are for speakers, as long as you use good wire, 14 ga at least.
(rear speakers on my home surround system are over 50 ft, through floors and walls)

I'm with Tom on this one. The trunk is certainly the best place...with your amplifiers. That said, as an installer the door is certainly the easiest place, assuming your tweeters are also in the doors. If your tweeters are, say...in the A-pillars or dash, then there's little advantage to locating the crossovers in the door. I think there are as many answers to this question as there are installers in the world!
In my shop we would typically mount the passives close to the amps, and make two runs of 4-wire speaker cable to the front, splitting the jacket into 2 pairs at the kick panel if necessary for tweeters/mids, or running the 4-wire into the door. Sure, that's a pain when dealing with door grommets, molex connectors, etc but it's the "right" way to do it. Using OEM wiring is cheap, easy and "barely good enough"...

who said using oem wires ?.. I've never seen that before, it's probably more hassle then running new speakers wires, its just that having the crossovers near the front makes it to not have to waste an extra 20 $ in good speaker wire to make full lengths of the car.. I think thats a waste of resources

Furthermore to my previous post, I'm not looking to argue with people.
Regarding the mention of OEM wiring, I mentioned that during a brief discussion of wiring options. I find it hard to believe that someone has never seen that before.
Even if my way of wiring was somehow to cost an additional $20 that is a small price to pay for having a well laid out, clean and logical installation where the crossovers are nicely displayed and away from underdash EMI such as ECU's and fan blowers. Something I or any of my customers can easily substantiate. Afterall, $20 is only 0.5% of a typical system price.

yea, thats true, If I was lookingat making my system as nice as it sounds, then I would spend that extra 20 $ for wires, but that wasn't my case, I ended up short and had to put them where they are now under the dash. and I would have no place to display them anyways.. but If anybody was going for looks, then the trunk would be a good idea. and I dunno, my speakers sound darn good, I can't see by running 4 sets of wires , how much bigger of an improvement it could have. but good point none the less

i have my crossovers inside the doors of my 2002 grand prix
i managed to find a space big enough for them on the dry side of the vapour barrier rather than inside the same cavity that the window rolls down into
