Civic 1991 Wiring, Cut Harness
Good day,
I just bought an inexpensive car radio at Canadian Tire, Nextar M930.
I have never installed a car stereo before.
Car:
Honda Civic 1991
Problem:
The wiring harness has been cut on the car; I’m not sure how to connect the power.
Old Radio Wiring:
1- “Black Ground” wire of the radio connected to the “Black Ground” wire of the car.
2- “Red Ignition” wire of the radio connected to the “White/Blue Stripe” and “White/Green Stripe” wires of the car.
*I don’t know what the White/Green Stripe wire is for??
New Radio:
1-Has a “Black” ground wire which I know is for the “Black” wire of the car.
2- Has a Yellow Constant wire and a Red Ignition Switch Wire which I am not sure about.
Any help on which wires to connect would be greatly appreciated…
Thanks

on the new deck
put the red and yellow together as it will allow the radio to play when the car is not all the way on, and for the green and blue w/ white strips, one is power and the other is constant i THINK, i have a civ and i had the same issue, wire harness was snipped.
put the red/yellow together to the green/blue, it should be good, and obviosly black to black..

Thanks bensta,
I think you are right, I will try what you say.
I just couldn't find the white wire with green stripes in any civic stereo diagram. I will check the voltage of it and like you say it is probably the constant. I am wondering if this wire was used for the cigarette lighter as the cigarette lighter had been removed when I bought the car and it's in the same area.
So I guess the yellow constant wire on the radio is just to save settings, not to fully power the deck. And the red ignition wire on the deck is to actually power the deck. Then I would only need to supply constant power to the yellow and red wires of the deck and I could leave out the ignition wire from the car. But, I guess its ok to put the ignition wire in the mix as well like you say, maybe it's how it should be done.
I am really a novice at this, learning as I go...
thanks again, really great!!

The best way is to use a multimeter or test light, so you can determine which is the full time 12 volt power, and which is the ignition power (only gets 12
volts when key is to the on or ACC position). Here are the colour codes for your car from www.the12volt.com, although they are not always 100% accurate:
1988-91 Honda Civic Stereo Information
Constant 12V Blue/White (matches up with yellow wire on aftermarket deck)
Switched 12V Yellow/Red (matches up with red wire on aftermarket deck)
Ground Black
Front Speakers 6 1/2" Doors
Left Front (+) Blue/Green
Left Front (-) Gray/Black
Right Front (+) Red/Green
Right Front (-) Brown/Black
Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Blue/Yellow
Left Rear (-) Gray/White
Right Rear (+) Red/Yellow
Right Rear (-) Brown/White
Good luck.

Thanks for all the help!
I took a picture of the wiring in the old car deck currently installed and I attached it here.
Justin, I haven't had a chance to get a multimeter, but I will do so asap to get this resolved.
Thanks for the wiring info Jeepbeats, greatly appreciated, but I still can't find that white with green strips wire?? Strange!
Is there any way by just looking at how the old deck is wired up, you can determine the correct wiring for the new deck??
white/blue and white/green go into red switch wire of the radio. That seems to be it other than the ground to ground and the red/black from the car which is disconnected.
Thanks again all... and I will get the voltages of the wires asap.

This makes no sense.
I have been trying to find out what the white/green wire was and now I know, it's for the horn and brake lights. This would mean it's a constant power source. But, so is the white/blue wire. So, this means I have 2 constant power sources connected to the red wire of the old deck? I would think I could just use the constant white/blue wire and tape off the white/green. Hmmm 50 bucks is starting to sound good to have a pro install it, what if I lose my brakelights???
regarding yellow marettes, I would use pink marettes if I could get this to work.
