Phase 2 front stage

Time for phase 2, front stage speakers.

Prime factor is sound quality. I have never pushed the sound level to the top yet. I love mid bass and cannot stand aggressive hi’s (I have been tested to have more sensitive hearing than average).

Which 3 way system would you recommend for my caravan. Stock location is 6X9 in the door and 5¼ in the dash. Lotsa room:

- Eclipse SC8365, new, about 650$, I am worried about the small mid, A1 dealer;
- Focal 165 K3, never installed previous generation sold as used by private, about 600$, my first pick;
- CDT HD642, well worn 200$, mid bass should be nice, silk tweeter, well worn but look alright. Sold on this forum.

In any case I cannot listen to any of them, so I have to rely on reviews and opinions.

Phase 3 will probably be an amp for that. Not as much a priority as my listening sound level is not that high. It’s mostly going to be for the occasional peak of testosterone when moving so much more mass is simply going to be too much for the radio’s amp.

Side note
I just bought a pair of Eltax Monitor 3 bookshelf speakers (300$) to connect to my computer with an older Marantz amp. I am rediscovering the pleasure of SQ to the point that I now have to reload all my cd collection to WMA because I was loosing too much quality over MP3 conversion. That is my new reference (wife and kid won’t let me enjoy my Mirage/Harman Kardon/Carver/Yamaha Pro in the living room). Soooo my car is my second sound heaven but seriously lacks precision & definition.

Personal preference from me, Focal are nice but the top end is just too shrill for me.

Interesting comment. First one I hear of this nature. All reviews say they are better than sliced bread. How do they compare to the Eclipse and CDT then ?

My ears used to hear far better than they do now. I have found that the K series of Focal are just shrill to my ears. They are solid on the midbass and midrange, no doubt about that but again, personal preference here. CDT no experience with so I will not make a comment on. The Eclipse have proven to be a respectable set of speakers.

2 pair of RF components. I know, I need something better but they sound good enough for me right now, they handle my highs amp (RF Power 800a4), and didn't have to reach too deep in the pocket either. Dollar for dollar, not bad at all.
