I’m listening… listening real good!
Maybe I’m just asking too much by trying to avoid touching the rear cargo area. Danyman’s picture got me thinking. Here are some reference points to go with the pictures. That track with the hooks is 40” wide, with 6¼” c-to-c in between the hooks and the whole area is 49” wide. There’s 15,5” to the bottom of that rail and 14” between the door and bottom of the rail. So that would make possible a square box 15,5”h X 14”d X 20”w
With BassBox, it gives me, with typical acoustic fill, an inside volume of 1,624 cu ft (Vb), would require a vent of 1”h X 6”w X 9,8”deep for an Fb of 29,36Hz and a F3 of 25,26 Hz. I don’t have a clue as to what my tuning Frequency should be and what Fb & F3 mean. Pioneer recommends an inside volume of 1,65 cu ft and a 3” round port X 6” long. Would it be easier to just use a round port??? In the following pictures, the speaker carton is 14” X 14” X 8” and 0,4 cu ft. So I would need the equivalent of 3 of those boxes (I know it doesn’t add-up, and it’s because I am factoring the thickness of the wood and the volume of the speaker).
Danyman, that is a NICE box you have there. I also like how it doesn’t block-off the rear heater and jack door. I assume it’s about 16”h X 12”d X 48”w? By the looks of it, you would only have maybe 3-4 inches between your box and the rear hatch. Is that sufficient? Is your box ported? If so, did you aim the vent toward the underneath of the third row seat?
Father Yuly, that’s the kind of system I say is for a guy with no family, a car payment AND a stereo payment ha! ha! ha!
Lpchouinard, Your idea about a third bucket seat is not that bad. I think there was a model that was made to be like 60/40 buckets. So the 60 part could fit 1½ person. I’ll kep that one in mind. ……if the bug to go with 2 twelve’s gets me he! he! he!
OK, ok, so you guys pretty much convinced me to use the cargo area. It sure would be a heck of a lot easier to build and I could aim the sub to the roof rather than the rear. The port could be aimed anywhere. Still can’t make my mind on round port versus a square vent. And how the heck do I figure out the tuning frequency? Seams like each calculating tool gives a different f-whatever letter acronym. And if I was to go with a round port, I already understood that it’s got to be as far as possible between the box edges and the woofer itself, and the outside has to be flared to prevent port noise. Does the inside have to be flared also or does it make a difference?
For the alternator thing, I will see later, but did figure I might have to change it anyway. In a previous life, I got to learn that an alternator is putting-out at the most something like 20% of it’s capacity at idle, and required the engine to rev like crazy before it put out it’s rated power. Limousine guys deal with their local alternator shop who can tweak them to put out a tremendous amount of power at idle or just about. That would be my alternative. But with only the one sub going, and since I intent to listen to it rather than blow my hair with it, I don’t foresee any real issue.

good luck finding someone that can do that... unless you are willing to part with your AC. I had 2 220amp ohio generators for my caravan and I only ended up putting one of them in. Even changing the altenator in a caravan is a royal pain in the a**. If you get one 200+ amp altenator you will be fine. I know someone that has 2 of them just rebuilt from ohio generator for that van just laying around
my van i rather very easy to take out the alt. and if that alternator FITS my stock location garantied. give me a price on it lol and how many amps at idle?? and peak at 2000rpm?

Sweet!
And I see you made the ports stretch out underneath. Good thinking! How do you hold the box down, or is it loose? Would be nice to find a way to hook it to the floor rails :-)
I see you changed the front door speakers. Did you do anything with the dash speakers? When I grow rich, I was thinking of maybe putting 6½ mid-bass in the doors and 5½ in the original location in the dash

so hows the project going??
you may want to seriously consider doing those speakers upgrades lol. my stock speakers cant project anything with the 2 12's i have right now. so if i get my 15" L5 installed i wont be able to hear anything i dont think, so im replacing the dash speakers only for frontstage (i have no door speakers ). hopin to put in a pair of 5 1/2 3-way speakers by eclipse under the dash. the state my minivans in... its lucky to have any money put into it! the caravans trunk rattles mighty.
