I am running one 10" 300Wrms Eclipse sub in my 94 blazer and i love it. At least from the front. When i am driving everything sounds perfect but when i go to the back and open the hatch there is this loud noise (hard to explain what the noise sounds like but it is almost like a high pitched vibration). This noise is very distracting. I ran my rca's and my power wire on opposite sides so that isn't the problem.

My old encloser was supposed to be sealed but i found out 3 weeks after i have been running my subwoofer that it actually had a huge leak in the back. Is it possible that my old enclosure ruined my sub or are there any suggestions of what could be causing this noise?

well water leaks and audio equipment do not mix well like peanut butter and jam. i don`t think any enclosure is designed to be "water resistance", unless your running your sub in a "sub" chances are your driver got a big sauggie, take it apart and look for moisture damage. maybe you should fix your internal leak as well....thats probably what ruined your sub.

EDIT: my initial thought is the amp is unstable or a ground loop (electrical not mechanical) but after reading the initial post, I really dont have enough info to make the assumptions I made so ... nevermind

is it a constant noise or is it only when the bass hits. im going to say its air leaking out of the box or air leaking arould the where the sub is mounted

It only happens when bass is held out for a long time. Fast/short hits sound normal but when the sub vibrates for more than a second it makes the sound.

JohnVroom, my amp is the only cheap piece of equipment i have in my system. So there are good possibilities that you are right. What is a ground loop used for? One came with the amp but i don't use it cuz i was told it is unneeded. And what do you mean by unstable?

ooh, i forgot to say that the highpitched vibration is in tune with the music. I mean, the highpitched vibration is on the same note that the subwoofer puts out. Like, i don't know much about music notes but if the subwoofer put out "A Low" the highpitched noise would be "A High"

could it be a rattle from the lid? when you open the the door, does it go away?

Uh oh, i am thinking i found the problem. I mean, i am still trying to find out what the point of ohms are but i am putting some new carpet on my enclosure and I lifted up my sub and it read 8 ohms. And I am almost positive my amp was made to run a 4 ohm subwoofer. What problems could this cause?

from what i understand, the only prob is that your amp isnt putting out as much power...
