amp cutting out
hey guys, kind of new to this.
ill start off this is my problem..... ill be driving along listening to a song and then the sub will just cut out, if i take a look in the boot (where i have both the amp and the sub) my amp has gone into protection mode.. if i cycle the power to the amp (restart the head unit) it comes back on for a little while........ problem comes up when i have the volume at a certain level......and is getting to be really annoying.
Sony XM1S Mono Amp
Pioneer TS-W307D2 1200w Dual VCoil Sub
Pioneer 5950IB Head Unit
i have 4GA cable for my power and earth for the amp. and they are both good connections. i have the sub wired to the amp as follows
running in 2 ohm running each set of the terminals on the amp to a set on the sub.....

sorry for the picture if you need any more info please ask.

the D2 on the end of the pioneer sub part number means Dual 2 ohm coils.
You've got them in Paralell, giving you a 1 ohm load. The sony amp is only rated for 2 or 4 ohm, won't do 1 ohm.
Its a good thing it goes into protect, stops it from letting all the smoke out.
You need to put the 2 coils in series, (connect the positive of one coil to the negative of the other coil) then use the leftover + and - to the amp for a total 4 ohm load.
I'd take the sub back and get the D4 version, if it were up to me.
Or, better yet, get a second sub and a much bigger amp.

I would be suprised if that amp could take a 2ohm mone load, most pioneer amps I have seen are only stable to 4ohm mono... wire that thing in series instead, so you can have a 4 ohm load... This will surely solve your problem.

thank you very much for your replies, as stated i am new to this and was under the assumption that they would be running each coil as 2 ohm still..... i wasnt aware that it would make it a single 1 ohm, could anyone suggest a amp that would be more suited ?, i am now running it in 4 ohm by bridging the center to points on the sub... went for a drive and it didnt cut out thankyou for helping.
however i have 1 more question. if i was to get say a 2nd amp and sub exactly the same as the 1s i have already.... would either of these wiring configurations work?
thankyou again.

The picture on the right ... HELL NO !! don't even do that (first of your going back to your initial mistake of 1 ohm load)... and the one on the right is ok just as long as you match the gains on both amps so each coil gets the same ...
