Anybody have any opinions on mounting two amps in a (vented somehow) box under the cab(yes, outside) of my truck??? Because I need the space under the rear seats for the sub box and there isn't alot of room under the front seats (they dish down, no hollow) I'm looking for some options. If you think I've been sniffing too much vinyl tile glue(see previous thread) then let me have it.

It's a super cab, not a crew and there's no room behind the rear seat.

Thanks, I like it alot.

That's a good idea with the rear doors, except I want to leave the sheet metal intact. I may still try shoehorning the amps under the front seats, just can't even slide them under with the seats in and I don't have the right torx bit yet. Thanks for the idea!

I am doing my dads truck. This is my plan for this. Since he dont really want to see that there is a sub in place other then something under the back seat.. All that I am doing is this. I am gunna build a "frame" out of MDF wood, then Im gunna cover the carpet up with some tape and some news paper, lay glass down on that so I can get the shape of the floor and what not, I am going to either silicon or bondo any gaps from the finished hardned mold to the frame (it will be attached, if it comes apart I will glue it on the frame) after that just lay another peice of MDF wood on top of the frame to close that off and put my 1 10" Sub in there...This is goin in a 1994 GMC Sierra Ext cab. w/ the bench seat in the back. I might paint the box or I might carpet it. I am also going to leave enough room on the side for the amp to lay on top, all in 1 box. So when you lift up the bench seat, you will see the amp facing up words, as well as the sub.. And thats about that.

see now my main concern with mounting an amp under a vehicle is water, if its vented to allow airflow... water can get in just as easy... water and an amp obviously dont mix to well....

That sounds like his original intention was an exterioe (outside the cab) mount, not just under the seat. Outside the cab is a bad idea because of the possibility of water exposure, and other elements such as salt and anything else that could be thrown at them.

I would agree with the recommendation to mount them under the seat. If there isn't enough clearance, place some sort of spacer around the bolts that anchor the seat to the floor. This should give you the extra 1/2 clearance that you would need to mount the amp under the seat.

what about in the bed, close to the cab...of course, you'd have to drill through for wiring, but you would have more options for covering them that way, perhaps in a lock-box or something.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the replies people, I appreciate them. Yes, my origional question was about mounting the Amps in a box UNDER the cab of the truck. I was aware of the moisture issue but thought a vent that resembled a maze might work. As it stands now, I had a much closer look at the area under the front seats(inside) and now I'm sure they will both fit there, one under each seat. After relocating some factory wiring/cable (power, heated seat/lumbar cable) I should end up with about a half inch clearance over the tops.

Thanks again
