AMP?
#1
Ok I have this amplifier here.
I was wondering since it is a mono amplifier with 1 x 500 watts at 4 ohms, will it power my Kicker Comp C10 Subs? Will it blow them?
My subs need 300 Watts each for the sub, or 150 RMS each sub.
How do i set my amp to 4 OHM?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

also how do you have your subs wired ? if they are in parallel that is a two ohm load, and series it is an 8 ohm load, so it will be pretty difficult to match your 500 watts at 4 ohms amp to those loads, unless your amplifier is stable at 2 ohms. If it is just wire the subs in parallel and turn your gains down.

Oh and you cannot to my knowledge set your amp to 4 ohm. It is not a mode it is the impedance it sees at the terminals. Eg 1 4 ohm sub hooked to the plus and minus terminals of the amp will result in the amp seeing 4 ohms(or so, frequency dependent). If you have your subs wired in series right now your amp will be seeing an 8 ohm load and that might be why your gains are turned all the way up. Because the amp will not put out 500 watts into an 8 ohm load, i am not sure what it would do, maybe 250 ? i am sure someone with more experience can tell you what exactly is goin on.

Lower the ohm-age, the higher the output. I always prefer to over power the sub with the amp, which is what you are doing. Good show! If they are both single coil 4 ohm, there is no way to set it up at 4ohm mono. As long as your amp is 2 ohm stable, which most mono's I've ever seen are, I'd load it down. With you're output, power supply shouldn't be an issue, so you won't have to worry about killin you battery. Do not run the amp full bore, you'll cook the subs!! (not fun) If you're running it and you smell something funny or you notice after a hard run that your subs are just scorching hot in the center, your amp is probably set to high. Also don't forget to break the subs in, before blasting the crap outta them (won't take long, just a couple days of regular driving...judging by low rms ratings - if you're edgy about break in time, as your dealer)
hope that helps

if your subs are single 4 you cant have a 4 ohm load. what amp do you have? in any case, you will have to wire the sys up like this. all the + of the subs to the + on the amp. all the - of the subs to the - of the amp. this is called wiring in parallel, and your amp will see 2 ohms which is the best way for you too go since i dont think your amp will put out/any power at 8 ohms.
