All 4 around or only 2 up the front?

All 4 around or only 2 up the front?
Ok, my question is simple, yet probably ridden to death (I didn't see it in search results so it might have been a long time someone asked this):
What do you prefer (and feel free to say why)
2 channels up front only, or all 4 channels (round / ovals w/e it would be on the back).
Please vote and post any suggestions/comments.
Cheers, Luke.

5.1 usually, but at least 4.0 always for me...I like it better and so do my passengers. However, for me it's usually a 3 way/ 2 way comp set of very high quality up front and same model or next level down but usually in co-ax form that fits the opening properly in the rear...this to retain similar tonal quality. Power is biased to the front 3 to 1 typically, and everything is active.

4 plus sub in most applications as typical 2 speaker set ups lack ambiance and seem to be missing something, but good 2 way comps plus sub in a good install can sound awesome. If you have no passengers or just don't care about them hearing the music properly, then a good 2 way is fine.

Usually peoplewho aren't in this hobby will change all 4. People that are in the hobby will use their cash to get as good a set as they can for the front and forget about the rears.
With just a 6.5 comp set up front, IMO it gets loud enough for front or rear passengers to not be able to maintaint a conversation.

I only have front speakers (3 way) and they get plenty loud enough for the 3rd row people to hear it. I just have to turn the bass down a little so they don't get blasted out.
IMO, one good set (properly positioned) almost always sounds better for music reproduction. If your into A/V then 4.1 or 5.1 is the way to go. Also, if your going to run rears, go round...

I have just added 2 way round speakers in the rear deck of my car. Previous was a 2 way component in the driver and passanger doors down low only. By adding the rear speakers, I was able to bring the staging up a bit. Sound seems to fill the cabin area better. By using 4 channel, you can tune your system easier.
Round drivers whenever possible. Less possible cone flex/distortion by using a round design. Any other shape cannot be supported equally around its perimeter with a center motor drive.
